Hi all, The friar here... Well summer is here and we are all busy doing something or the other. We try to be open on Saturday and Sunday for regular hours, and otherwise by appointment or chance. Call ahead and let us know when you would like to have a tasting and we will try to accomodate you.

Hi all. This has been an incredibly busy start of the season. We have a son graduating, a painting business in its second year and the tasting room taking off. Thank you all for your patients during these stressful times, and I hope we have not let you down by not being here when you showed up. If we did I am sorry, but family does come first. We are going to take it easy this year and not attend the Bangor wine on the waterfront event. We will try to be at the Portland event and the harvest festival. We will do something during open winery day but last year was "fly by the seat of our pants" day. Any suggestions for entertainment? I did enjoy the renisance string quartet. They were classy. I encourage suggestions. So stop by on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for tastings and see what is new.

So, it has been a very busy summer. Thank you all of you who visited us, and tolerated our appearance but our renovations to the tasting room are almost completed. We have yet to install the mead taps but the faux finishing of the walls and floor are incredible. The stained glass makes the place look very monastic. We are having open winery day on the 19th of September from 12-5 so come on down and see the new tasting room area and visit us.

Now the Minstrel Richard is back in limited reserve... That means we finished the batch and bottled it...The strange thing is that we were low on labels. I ordered 500 front and 500 back; so why do I have 6 more front labels than back labels? A MYSTERY!!! We have some Cherry Mead on the shelf and will have more when the order arrives from the printing shop. The Lemon ginger is a huge hit this summer. Stop in and see the tasting room expansion. We are about to finish mudding the walls and apply paint. Next phase is the wine tap system and cooler, and 20 ltr kegs. Any feedback about whether we should offer 20 ltr kegs for sale in the tasting room would be appreciated. We found a 1 way keg that would not require any deposit, and is 100% recyclable.

So.... After a long time away we are happy to announce the return to stock of the Maid Maya.... She has been out of stock for about a month and a half and today I filtered, bottled, and labeled about 7 cases. (yeah!!!!) Soon the Minstrel Richard cherry melomel will be back in stock.

Yeah!!!!! Sam is awesome! (Pssst: Don't tell him that, though. After all, he is a teenager! But he was able to change our cover picture. I love primroses! So if you are in the mood for some very traditional Mead, join us this weekend for The Fat Friar, the Friar Phillip's, and the Friar's Chili Pepper Mead: We will be open tomorrow and Saturday from 2-6, and Sunday from 12-6.

Our Meadery

We opened in 2010, a meadery... Wait. What is that you ask? We are just like a winery, only dedicated to creating mead. Mead is the oldest fermentable beverage in the world. It pre-dates wine and beer by a long time. Using honey for the fermentation we create different beverages by adding spices, fruit, and herbs. We are a quite a bit off the path in mid coast Maine, and the business is in the cellar of our house, but we offer a large tasting room, and friendly interactions with either myself, my wife, or sometimes my son. We open on weekends from 12-6 as long as the pathway is not blocked by snow. Call ahead to make other arraingments and we will let you know if we can accomodate you. We look forward to meeting you, or seeing you again. Relax and enjoy a taste of the olde world.
