Guests will be transported to early 2oth-century Europe in the rustic yet elegant space, recalling the 1949 film noir of the same name set in Vienna, starring Orson Welles. The cocktail program emphasizes a modern take on classics like The Last Word and Old-Fashioned, utilizing chef-driven technique and cross-pollination from Edi & the Wolf such as house-smoked ingredients, pickling juices, and ho
use-made cordials. Libations will include the Chesterfield with gin, fresh ginger juice, fresh lime juice, house-made grenadine and tonic water; the Harry Lime with mezcal, chartreuse, maraschino, and fresh lime topped with sparkling wine; and the Triest with myrtle berry liqueur, fernet and five-spice mulled cider. The chefs will offer a selection of cheese, house-cured charcuterie and bites like their signature Pumpkinseed Ricotta with pickled butternut squash and walnut bread; Pork Crackling with apple and pickled red onion; and Chicken Liver Terrine with brioche, glazed apples and frisee. Designed by Philip Haemmerle and Justine Parsons, the space features emerald green leather banquettes, distressed mirrors and glass bar shelving along exposed brick walls, offering an elegant take on the communal feel at Edi & the Wolf, merely half a block from The Third Man. A front façade made entirely of treated windows provides an airy feel, balanced by the wrought-iron buttresses salvaged from an old West Village church. Guests enter through a “tunnel” passageway lined with exposed wooden beams, opening into one of two seating areas and a full, wrap-around bar. The Third Man is open Monday through Wednesday from 7:00pm-2:00am and Thursday through Saturday from 7:00pm to 4:00am.
