In NYC we have one endangered species that nests on our beaches, the Piping Plover. From nest vandalism to increased predation, climate change, and human disturbance, their situation is dire.
They need our help.
Since 2021, the NYC Plover Project has been on the Rockaway Peninsula helping this tiny, intrepid, migratory shorebird. We have dedicated 10,000 hours of work with more than 250 volunteers since we began. This past season had our highest volunteer numbers and highest fledgling success rate since we’ve started. But our work is only just beginning.
NYC Plover Project is dedicated to contributing to a culture of conservation on the peninsula, and across our city. Through a newly launched education department, we are enlisting the help of our youngest stewards of the environment to speak up for their feathered neighbors. With the help of donors like you we can get into public school classrooms, bring classrooms to the beaches, and expand on our community engagement work.
