Amusing: American artist Jane Remover gave an ultimatum to the M3F Festival in Phoenix and demanded that Israeli group Temper City be removed from the lineup: “Take this IDF band off the lineup or I’m not performing.”

But the festival had other plans: In the updated lineup that was released, the singer who demanded a boycott of the Israeli band was removed completely and replaced by artist Flying Lotus, while the Israeli group remained part of the event.

"On October 7th, I was called up to the front lines. During combat, I experienced an event that changed my life. When I came back, my reality had shifted.

My saving grace was music. Without planning to, I created an album that laid out my traumas from the war. For the first time, I processed what I had gone through on my own, took ownership of the events, and cleared away a lot of the guilt.

In retrospect, I discovered that research in the field of combat trauma corroborates what I experienced: the creative process touched the pain and reached places that are difficult to access through conventional therapy. I thought about my squad and wanted to give them the therapeutic experience I went through. That is where the "Project Hed" (Project Echo) was born.

The project provides combat veterans with a safe space to process significant combat experiences. There is no requirement for participants to talk about what they went through, and no need for prior musical experience or knowledge—every veteran comes exactly as they are and finds their own unique voice.

Over a three-month process, accompanied by a team of top-tier therapists and musicians, they will create, write, and produce a song—a tangible creation that is entirely their own."
