Last Saturday we got together and had food and drink to celebrate the life of our friend, Bronwyn Rucker. Bronwyn, a regular visitor to Smith’s, lived a full and rich life right up until her very last day when she was so suddenly taken from us. A Pittsburgh native, Bronwyn had done so many things, it’s like she lived 3 lives in one. She was an artist, a writer, an actress, a social worker, a youth advocate and the Pumpkin Queen, leading New York City’s legendary Halloween Parade down the streets of Greenwich Village for many years.

Bronwyn made us all better and made Smith’s a better place. Look at us, there are books on the tables and art on the walls! Who would have ever thunk it?! She created beautifully rendered oil painting portraits of her fellow Smith patrons that you can see hanging on the brick walls.

We are grateful for the hope, kindness and inspiration she gave us. May her booklight shine forever in our hearts 💞
