How are you spending the long weekend?

Labor Day has been a New York tradition since 1882, when thousands of workers took to the streets of Manhattan for the country’s first Labor Day parade.

And sure, we weren’t around then - but 30 Water Street was, built in 1828 - and John Morrissey was roaming the streets with the Dead Rabbit gang around the same time, too. So, we like to think we’ve got a little in common with the holiday.

We’re open as normal, with plenty of reasons to make the most of that extra day off. Sure, it’s basically another Sunday, right?

The Dead Rabbit x The Life of Reilly - we’re heading to Mexico City.

Later this week, Christy & Neha are off to CDMX with Condesa Gin for a very busy couple of days. First up, they’ll be supporting San Patricios GAA at Copa Azteca on September 5th, before taking over Café de Nadie on September 6th, 8pm - 11pm.

This music-obsessed bar was listed No. 47 on North America’s 50 Best Bars 2025 and No. 17 in 2024 - known for working with ingredients from the surrounding Xochimilco region, and they know how to throw a good party.

Join us to try four drinks, including two from The Parlor and two from The Life of Reilly, featuring Condesa Gin and Patrón Tequila, including a Martini, Smash, Daisy, and El Presidente - not forgetting our iconic Irish Coffee.

Over the coming months, Jack’ll be introducing you to a few of our stand-out pieces of artwork, starting with this - Terry Bradley’s Dead Rabbit, one of our first-ever commissioned paintings.

This one-of-a-kind piece was created especially for us in 2018, to mark our fifth birthday. We later released it as a limited-edition print, donating a portion of the proceeds to AWARE NI, a charity supporting people affected by depression and bipolar disorder in the North of Ireland.

As Jack explains, we wanted Terry to build upon a character that symbolized the story of the Dead Rabbit gang, and its leader John Morrissey, in rabbit form - and the devil’s in the details.

There’s the American flag, the Irish insignia, the Five Points, and representations of depression, hope, honor, and toxic masculinity. Every time you look at it, you’ll find something different.

Since working with Terry, we’ve commissioned a myriad of artists across disciplines, from photography to illustration, each helping us tell another part of our story - and support the Irish arts.

While the Dead Rabbit print is no longer available, plenty of Terry’s work is - and it’s well worth a look.

Back in July, we announced our third gig with West Belfast comedian, Paddy McDonnell.

The 6pm sitting quickly sold out - so we’ve released new tickets for 9pm - and you’ll want to be speedy about it.

Joining us on September 3rd, Paddy has shared the stage with Frankie Boyle, Jason Manford, Paddy Kielty, and Andrew Maxwell, and has sold out headline shows across the city.

Drawing on stories from his days as a taxi driver to the everyday chaos of family life, his comedy is sharp, relatable, and very funny - best enjoyed with a pint in one hand and a cocktail in the other.

Founded in 2009 to mark 250 years of Guinness, Arthur’s Day is dedicated to the enjoyment of our favorite stout - the black stuff.

For those who don’t know, Arthur Guinness was just 34 when, in 1759, he signed that now-famous 9,000-year lease on a disused Dublin brewery, for an annual rent of just £45. Not a bad bit of business, in hindsight.

So, how are we celebrating? On September 24th, we’re running Happy Hour pricing all day at The Dead Rabbit NY, as well as The Dead Rabbit Austin, The Irish Exit NY and ATL, San Patricios, and The Life of Reilly.

Here on Water Street, that means $8 pints of Guinness from open ‘til close, plus $2 oysters ‘til 10pm.

The Irish arts have always been close to our hearts - somewhat of a raison d'être, a core purpose, celebrated through our music, storytelling, comedy, design and everything in between.

For Jack, that passion started at home. His mum, Donna, was an avid actor and talented playwright, and growing up, he saw firsthand the dedication, work and sense of community that goes into the sector - and how chronically underfunded it is.

That’s why we’re standing with Equity for its Day of Action at Stormont, calling for an end to the arts funding crisis and for a proper Arts Policy for the North of Ireland.

Over the past decade, funding for Arts Council NI has been cut by more than 40%. Today, the North receives just £5.07 per person in arts funding, compared with £10 in England and £22 in the Republic of Ireland. Behind those figures are artists, performers, producers, venues, jobs and communities whose futures depend on meaningful support.

And they’ve been waiting. In July 2025, the Committee for Communities called on Communities Minister Gordon Lyons MLA to develop an arts and culture strategy and secure proper funding for the sector. The Minister has promised an Arts Policy since 2025, while the Arts Council’s own ten-year strategy for 2024-2034 remains unsigned.

Last week, Irish traditional music lost one of its great champions.

Eithne Vallely (née Ní Chiarda) passed away aged 81 following a road traffic collision in Armagh - her adopted home, and now her place of rest.

Alongside her husband Brian, Eithne founded the Armagh Pipers Club in 1966, beginning a lifetime dedicated to Irish music, culture and tradition. Over six decades, she helped bring music into the lives of generations of young people, reaching up to 200 students a year, including the children and grandchildren of the club’s earliest members.

That musical legacy runs through the Vallely clan. Eithne’s son Cillian is part of The Dead Rabbit family, and has led our Sunday Sessions for the past 12 years - and there’s no doubting where his musical talents come from.

Originally from Donegal, Eithne made Armagh her home, and her contribution to traditional Irish music earned her numerous awards, including Gradam Ceoil TG4’s Gradam Aitheantais and the BBC Folk Awards’ Good Tradition Award.

In 2022, the Vallelys were featured in an episode of Táin Media and TG4’s Ceol ón Chlann, telling the story of the family and their passion for the Irish arts - including Eithne and Brian’s work teaching thousands of young musicians. If you’re able, we’d encourage you to seek it out and watch it.

There are countless musicians playing today because Eithne encouraged them to pick up an instrument, and many more who will learn from the people she taught. It’s difficult to imagine a greater legacy than helping ensure the music you loved continues long after you’re gone.

Our thoughts are with Brian, Cillian, Niall, Caoimhín, Lorcan and Máire, the Vallely family, and everyone whose life Eithne touched through her music.

We’re less at risk of scurvy now than we were in the 1800s, but if you need to up your vitamin C intake, we’re here to help.

Back in the day, British sailors drank citrus to keep disease at bay. The crew mixed Rose’s Lime Cordial with rum, while officers kept things a little more proper with gin.
This one brings both sides together for a Grog-meets-Gimlet hybrid, with bright citrus and a nod to the Hotel Nacional.

Proof that rank has its privileges, but the best drinks meet somewhere in the middle.

We can wax lyrical about our pints of Guinness, Parlor cocktails, hearty Irish meals, and extensive collection of Irish spirits all day, every day.

But our Side of Vegetables? Not so much.

Our medley of roasted carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, and sweet potatoes sells like hotcakes - but however we spin it, it's tough to make a bowl of veg sound exciting.

They're roasted, they're seasoned, they’re very healthy, and people order a lot of them… And as it turns out, not everything needs a sales pitch.

You might have noticed we closed our doors at The Irish Exit Pub Atlanta - with good reason.

We took the day to finally celebrate our opening. Yep, it was in June, but launching right at the start of the World Cup meant we went pretty straight from first service into 104 games of beautiful chaos.

A huge thank you to our team, who’ve spent the past couple of months pouring pints, cooking up a storm, shaking drinks, taking care of our guests, and making The Irish Exit ATL feel like home.

We Irish never miss an excuse for a party - and this was a great one.

You might think The Taproom is all pints and drams, but our mise en place isn't to be sniffed at.

If you want award-winning cocktails delivered to a dimly lit table, with elevated service, hand-chipped ice, and intimate seating, head upstairs to The Parlor. For hustle and bustle, vertical drinking, and the energy of a lively Irish pub, The Taproom's the spot for you.

Behind the bar, our stations are designed for speed, but more importantly, so our bartenders don't have to think about where anything is.

Garnishes, bitters, spoons, jiggers, tins, glassware, liqueurs, and modifiers all live exactly where they should, within arm's reach. Cheater bottles are mirrored and alphabetized, the middle cold well keeps syrups and garnishes fresh, and the speed rail is, as the name suggests, built for speed.

That means less time hunting for bottles, and more time looking after you, without having to compromise on the quality of our cocktails.

And if you just fancy a quick pint of Guinness? Well, that’s quite alright with us.
