Hey dudes! It’s been a hell of a time. Thank you, everyone, for being a part of this place. I’ve met so many radical people and made so many friends at this little bar, I can’t pretend to realize the impact Darlings has made on me (or the amount it has prematurely aged me). I’m having a hard time figuring out what to say here, so I guess this will do: Cheers, fu***rs! Anyway, here’s Piebald. Love, Fence.

Brooklyn Service Industry Against Racism is an alliance of bars and restaurants committed to long-term and continual fundraising for Black-led organizations and the Black community. The recent outpouring of action following the murder of George Floyd has been amazing, but it is not enough! Each month we will pick an organization to contribute to based on guidance from the Black Lives Matter community. The businesses allied with us commit to hosting a recurring night once a month, where 20% of their sales (roughly of half their profits) will be donated. With a minimum donation of $200 per night, we stand to raise thousands each month, every month, from now on. You, as a patron, can check our page and see exactly where getting drunk, or having dinner with a friend can show your support. At the end of each month we will announce the amount we raised and the next charity we plan to pick, with complete transparency. The bars committed so far are as follows, next to the day of the month that will be their night starting July 2020...

2nd- Cpt. Dan’s Good Time Tavern
3rd- Pearls Social & Billy Club
4th- Darlings
5th- Toad Style
6th- A Bar
7th- Ore Bar
8th- Second Chance Saloon
9th- Zeke’s Bar
10th- TV Eye
As a community, we need to go farther than just raising money. BSIAR will also hold ourselves accountable in our commitment to anti-racism by: highlighting black-owned businesses for our patrons to check out/frequent in the neighborhoods we occupy (many of which we are gentrifying); internal reflection to make sure Black employees are receiving equal treatment, fair pay, good shifts and front of house positions; ensure our environments are welcoming to BIPOC patrons; and continually strive to unlearn the racist practices that are so prevalent in our industry. This is an ongoing conversation and we are committed to do our part in dismantling the white supremacy and racism that we benefit from. It starts with us.
Do you work in a bar or restaurant in Brooklyn? Ask your boss if they’d like to join us! We hope to have 30 businesses contributing in order to fill the entire calendar.
