It's hosted by Tim Kiefer, a Georgia-native actor who currently resides in Greenpoint. The show features 12 wireless, lock-out hand buzzers and an ORIGINAL presentation written and designed specifically for The Habitat. There are 7 categories of 25 questions available every week of which up to 5 are chosen throughout the night. A round typically lasts between 20 minutes to an hour depending on the
type of category. Categories range from topical to irrelevant. This isn't the SAT. Don't bring a pen because you won't need it. There are visual and audio categories and a myriad of rounds that meld multiple mediums together. The host has a microphone and can be heard from the entire bar—he has quite a voice aside from that, so don't feel you have to jockey to sit right in front of him. You do not have to be present for all 5 rounds in order to play. You just need your name in the hat box. Before each round, 12 names are chosen from the box. Those are the 12 individual contestants for that round. Each gets a lighted lock-out hand buzzer and their name on the scoreboard. Each question answered correctly receives at least a point. A wrong answer merits a point deduction and mocking laughter from the host and audience. Well, a point deduction at the very least. A caught-cheating garners a three point deduction. The difficulty of the questions vary. With 125 questions every week there are going to be some fairly easy ones. Knowing is one thing, however, and reacting quickly enough to lock-out your other 11 competitors is another. As clues are revealed, more and more people will be able to formulate an answer so remember, reflexes are key. You don't have to be a Ph.D to win a category. Quiz Night at The Habitat's philosophy is that a trivia night shouldn't be exclusive. Anyone can ask hard questions. The answers to Quiz Night's questions are designed to be gradually realized over a period of time. Just like a magic trick, it's all about the REVEAL. The more you know about a topic, the earlier you can answer based on the amount of clues presented to you. Winners receive an individual prize of free drinks for half an hour. Before you go boozing in your brilliant glow of prosperity just know that winners are automatically entered into the next round and choose the next category. If studies were conducted they would show that the higher the amount drank during a half hour victory lap is inversely proportionate to the success you have in the next round. Unfortunately I couldn't afford a statistician to verify this for me. Oh, and if you have a proclivity to be funny and can make the host laugh, have a shot on him. He'll have one with you.
