(406)

In the heart of lower Manhattan, Da Claudio brings a seasonal Italian menu and friendly modern aesthetic to one of the oldest streets in New York. Da Claudio embraces the changing landscape of New York City dining, offering curated fresh market driven-fare enhanced with the finest Italian imports, a beautiful bar and salumeria as well as take-out and full service dining in a modern, light and airy space. Claudio and Linda Marini were co-owners of Barbarini Alimentari & Mercato, located on Historic Front Street in the Seaport, a successful restaurant operating since 2006 until it was completely destroyed by Super Storm Sandy. Claudio and Linda are delighted to reunite with all their old customers and friends in the neighborhood and to befriend many more over Da Claudio’s wonderful food and wine.

Twenty-five years later, we both remember that morning so clearly, but from two very different places. I was working as a buyer for Barneys New York with offices at 47th and Fifth Avenue. It was Fashion Week, so we were all at work early. The sky was so blue and the air so crisp after so many days of rain. We all stood on Fifth Avenue looking downtown, watching the towers burning. Claudio was downtown, sleeping in after another long night at the restaurant. I called him and told him he needed to leave. He went up to the roof and took pictures, looking at the damage and thinking, “How are they going to fix that hole?” At that point, no one really understood what was happening.

He went back inside, calling me, trying to understand what was going on and what to do. Then the first tower collapsed. The building started shaking like crazy, the power went out, and Claudio and a few others in the building ran down the stairs in the dark.

Outside was chaos. As Claudio remembers it, no one knew where to go or where was safe. The police were screaming at everyone to keep running north, afraid the gas pipes underground might explode. All kinds of debris was coming down, and the dust was so dense you could barely see in front of you. He just kept running north.

By then, cell reception was very spotty. We kept trying to reach each other and somehow managed to arrange to meet in front of St. Vincent’s Hospital at 14th and Seventh. Once we found each other, Claudio and I started walking downtown with one of my colleagues. We wanted to see if our apartment building was still there. Before we got there, Building 7 started coming down. We all ran. Later, we would see our apartment building again and again on television, used as a backdrop by many of the news stations covering what had happened. We wouldn’t move back home for four months. And yet, one of the things we remember most was how people came together. There was so much humanity in the middle of something so terrible.

Tonight, on the eve of the 25th anniversary, we felt that again. Seeing so many people downtown, gathering around the Freedom Tower, remembering and honoring those who were lost, was incredibly moving.

We also had the privilege of hosting a large family gathering at Da Claudio tonight. They had lost members of their family that day and came together to remember them. Thank you for sharing your stories with us and allowing us to be a small part of your evening.

Twenty-five years later, we remember that beautiful blue sky. We remember the fear and confusion, but we also remember how people came together.

Claudio always says how grateful he is to still be here. And we both think of and pray for those who are not.

Tonight, seeing people come together again to remember and honor them was something very special.

We will always remember.

On a gray, rainy day like today, there’s nothing quite like the warmth of a dining room filled with familiar faces, new friends, and people gathered around the table.

Good food, good wine, laughter and conversation - these are the simple moments that stay with us!

The city slows down in late August. The sunsets get longer, the streets get quieter, and the evenings feel like they belong to you.

This love this time of the year at Da Claudio. Come in tonight.

27 years ago today, we said “I do” in church. Long before the restaurant, through all the chapters, challenges, celebrations and dreams that followed, we’ve always been a team.

Da Claudio is very much a part of our story. A restaurant built on family, love, and a life shared together.

Happy anniversary to us! ❤️

After a few years away, Claudio is back on the bike for Bike MS. 🚴‍♂️🧡

He’s done this ride a few times before, raising funds to support those living with multiple sclerosis (MS) — a disease that affects the brain, spinal cord and nervous system — and to help fund research toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

So proud to see him riding for this important cause again. ❤️

Cheering you on every mile, Claudio! Claudio Marini

I’m participating in Bike MS: New York City 2026 to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Nearly one million people in the US are living with the challenges and uncertainty of MS. With more than $1 billion invested in MS research, the Society has categorically transformed the la...

Italy in August is our moment to recharge. 🇮🇹🍷

We come here each summer to cherish our family and simply be together. Meals around the table. Cooking together. Conversations about the future. Memories of summers past. Discovering new places and returning to the ones we love.

Every summer is different. This year, everything seemed to arrive early, the heat, the rain, the harvests and we see and taste it in what we eat and drink. The food on our table, the wine in our glasses, all of it a reflection of the season, the land, and what nature gives us.

Families are gathering. Tables are getting longer. There is time to cook, eat, talk, laugh, remember, and simply be together.

We are grateful, as always, to be here for it. To slow down with Italy. To appreciate another summer together. And to remember what matters most.

Buon Ferragosto! Linda
