Fueled by stiff drinks and the high quality of the artists, hand picked each week, this irreverent, borderless evening has grown to include several other songwriters at its core. This “avant-garde” evening, as Block Magazine (Brooklyn, NY) declares, is hosted weekly by several ubiquitous characters on the Brooklyn rock scene including Tom Rhodes, Liz Clark, Alex Lowry, Steve Waitt
& Rick Royale to name a few. WhiskeyBreath is anything but your average dry Singer/Songwriter night. The Village Broadsheet (New York, NY) claims (ironically) that it is the "stomping grounds for just about everybody who's anybody on the East Village music scene today." The revival of the self-proclaimed 'songwriters private club' finds itself at Precious Metal just a shuffle away from the Central M train stop in Bushwick. After a brief hiatus the open mic returns hosted by Kyle Jackson, Bushwick local and bar regular. Bringing more than a fair share of music and whiskey breath each night keeps the mic warm for any and all willing to share their music. The night showcase features artists and will also have an open policy to new songwriters as well as walk-up performances. It is not a traditional open mic, but rather a community gathering of songwriters and an opportunity to hang low with some very good songwriting talent. This night will feature established talent and some newcomers in the most bohemian neighborhood in town. There will be a sign up sheet, but this isn't a democracy. Maybe you won't. But it will be good. Come and hang. We'll see.
