In a neighborhood that has withstood so many challenges including a recent fire that resulted in the loss of some generational businesses, St.Patrick’s Day once again shows what this amazing community is still truly made of. Though the once familiar landscape of our beloved Kingsbridge is ever changing, its proud roots are still very much intact as evidenced by last night’s spectacular turnout for the annual painting of the Shamrock on West 231st street and Kingsbridge Ave. As we celebrate however, we also take time to remember and humbly honor those who we have lost. Thank you to all of our friends and neighbors, both new and old, who took the time to kindly come and lend their love and support. Special thanks to Scottymac & BXFX, the KBAOH and all of our volunteers.

Hello Dear Friends,

Another year has come and gone and Toys for Children will carry on. We will be celebrating our 32nd year of providing gifts for the children in Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at Columbia Presbyterian during the Christmas season. This year's TFC will take place on Saturday, December 7th, at Mr. McGoo’s Pub, located at 5602 Broadway (232nd street), beginning at 4:00 P.M. Music, prizes, food, and great friends in attendance will be on the menu for the evening. Come join this annual tradition and catch up with old friends, make new friends, and begin the Christmas season with some fun.

Our main source of revenue for purchasing toys has been for many years, the $5.00, which sell up until the drawing on the night of December 7th. We could always use more raffle sellers, so if you are interested, please contact me at the number below and I will get them to you. Even if you only sell 5 raffles, it helps us tremendously. We wish all of you could be there when the children in the hospital open up their gifts; there is nothing more fun to watch. All of you have been making this possible for the past 31 years and we are eternally grateful.

Donations not spent on toys go directly to the Child Life Fund Program at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Over the years, you have contributed tens of thousands of dollars to this fund. Child Life purchases books, toys, video games, arts and crafts, or special need items that some of the children may need or request. The Child Life personnel also interact with the children daily; they read and play with the children every day, celebrate birthdays, coordinate activities, and generally help the children feel as comfortable as possible during their stay in the hospital. We have been honored to work with the wonderful group of people for all of the years. That said, the Child Life Staff are continuously amazed at the consistent generosity of all of you.

Two years ago we began presenting the "Toys for Children Award" to those individuals we felt have played, and continue to play, an important role in the success of TFC. Past recipients have been Jimmy O'Neill, and last year we presented Pauline and Roger O'Sullivan with the award. This year, we are proud to present the third annual award to Karyn Travalena. Karyn has been selling raffles for TFC since its inception. Each year she would give herself a goal of how many raffles to sell and she would always meet her goal. Every year her goal would increase and she always met her number. Needless to say, Karyn has sold thousands of dollars worth of raffles over the years. We are honored and privileged to give her this award.

We understand that not everyone can attend TFC due to prior commitments or just busy schedules; you will be missed. However, you can still make a difference by donating to Toys for Children. You can make out a check out to the New York Presbyterian Fund Inc. and in the memo line write "Mulvey-Child Life." This is important because the money is specifically earmarked for the Child Life program. If your employer or any corporations are willing to donate that would be fantastic. In the next email I will attach the necessary forms where you can send checks directly to the Child Life Fund if you so desire, or you can mail checks directly to me at the address below and we will present them the day we deliver the toys to the hospital.
