A Y2K party, mellow mindful vibes, and an Earth Day rave… and so much more!

Here’s my weekly roundup of things to do in NYC that don’t revolve around drinking, from April 20 to April 26.

Featuring not just one but two sober dance parties this weekend, a tea tasting, mindful evenings, a clothing swap night, a phone-sober night (!!), live music, and more.

If you’re looking for something to do at night that’s not just going to bars or want to meet new people that are on the same page, there’s plenty of events to choose from!

Will sober partying solve the loneliness epidemic?

No, sober partying will not solve the loneliness epidemic. Of course not. I’m not claiming that the sole act of going out dancing more will magically solve one of our modern society’s biggest problems - but it’s part of the answer.

It brings us closer to our community. It acts as a form of exposure therapy that makes us feel more comfortable around strangers again. It creates a sense of belonging through shared experiences.

Check out my latest Substack post for some thoughts on sobriety, partying, and finding belonging on the dance floor.

Hello & welcome to all the new people here!

I’m Sam, the founder of Bright Nights Social, a platform for alcohol-free nightlife in NYC and beyond.

I’m originally from Germany (been in NYC for 12 years!), just turned 40 last year, & quit drinking over 3 years ago. I launched Bright Nights Social because I wanted to create a space for anyone who wanted to socialize without the pressure to drink.

I started throwing sober parties in NYC in 2023 and have hosted close to 100 events since, ranging from social mixers to dating events, wellness nights, mixology classes, and dance parties.

I also share event updates about what’s going on in NYC, so if you’re curious about nightlife options that don’t revolve around drinking, like late night tea houses & coffee shops, great NA cocktails, library and museum parties, sober dance parties... you’re in the right place!
