WBASNY Mourns the Passing of Gloria Steinem

The Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY) mourns the passing of Gloria Steinem, a trailblazing journalist, activist, and champion for women’s equality, who died on September 2, 2026, at the age of 92. For more than five decades, Ms. Steinem helped shape the movement for women’s rights, challenging barriers to equality and inspiring generations of women to advocate for their rights, their voices, and their rightful place in society. Her lifelong commitment to advancing women reflected WBASNY’s own mission to promote the advancement of women in the legal profession and in society.

As we honor Ms. Steinem’s extraordinary life and legacy, we are reminded that the progress she fought for cannot be taken for granted. At a time when hard-won rights and opportunities for women continue to face challenges, her courage, persistence, and unwavering commitment to equality remain as relevant as ever. WBASNY honors Ms. Steinem by recommitting ourselves to carrying that work forward—defending the rights of women, breaking down barriers to equality, and ensuring that the progress she helped achieve not only endures, but continues.
