BBQ fans showed up in record numbers to enjoy unlimited ribs and sides by an all-star lineup of chefs and restaurants, plus sauces, spirits, beers, wines, and desserts!

Friends of Firefighters is a Brooklyn-based non-profit offering independent, confidential, and free mental health counseling and wellness services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their families.

Tomorrow, their team, led by Chef & Firefighter Vincent DeGennaro, will be cooking up an Amuse Bouche of Gochujang St. Louis rib pate over crispy rice—topped with green chile curry, pickled onion, and roasted peanuts. 🤤

We didn’t know that pigs could dance... 🐷🕺

But we DO know that Chef Matt Vranic of made us do a happy dance with his Kansas City-style spare ribs last year! This year will be Matt’s third round at Rib King NYC™—his bite-sized riblettes won him the Size Doesn’t Matter award his very first year! We can’t wait to see what delicious dish he is cooking up for us on Saturday.

Summer is almost here, and Rib King NYC is ready to officially kick it off. The annual competition returns to Industry City in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 23, bringing together more than a dozen of the region’s top pitmasters for an afternoon of ribs and bragging rights.

"The big story heading into this year’s event is hard to miss: Brothers Barbecue (Gavin, Jamie, and Chris Farella) just won the 2026 Brisket King NYC event (read more on that in the story below this one!), and they’re now chasing the rib crown too. They took home the 2025 Rib King NYC Friends of Firefighters People’s Choice Award, so they know this stage well. Can they make it two-for-two on the NYC BBQ competition circuit this year?

"The field is extremely competitive. Anthony Scerri of Smoke Sweats BBQ, the 2025 Rib King Runner-Up and the 2025 Brisket King NYC Champion, always brings his dishes to another level and will be doing the same this year. They’re partnering with Bad for Business Banana Ketchup crew for an “immersive experience.”

This year is all about New York, so say it with me… bacon, egg, and cheese, on a RIB! A St. Louis-style pork rib with a Banana Ketchup binder, seasoned with salt and pepper, wrapped in bacon tallow, and topped with a creamy New School American Cheese sauce and crispy shallots. We’re pairing this with a New York coffee corncake topped with maple syrup.
