I’m incredibly honored to share that Valkyrie’s Kiss Meadery received a **2026 TEXSOM Awards Judges’ Selection** recognition for **American Charred**.

Bringing this home to New Braunfels, Texas means a lot to me. I’m deeply grateful for my family, friends, our small but dedicated team here at VKM, and this hometown community that has supported us from the beginning.

What makes this especially meaningful is that TEXSOM is one of the most respected beverage competitions in the country, with thousands of annual entries and judging done by panels of highly experienced tasters from across the wine and beverage world, including Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, buyers, educators, and industry professionals. TEXSOM also states that awards are given on a "merit basis", and judges are instructed to give "no award" if an entry does not meet the standard. In other words, this is not simply about beating other meaderies in a small lane; it is about meeting a serious quality benchmark in a respected blind evaluation.

That is what makes this recognition so humbling for us as a small hometown meadery.

Thank you to TEXSOM, the judges, and everyone who has believed in us. We are proud to bring this honor home to New Braunfels.

We were proud to host the first stop of Josh’s bachelor celebration here at Valkyrie’s Kiss Meadery, and this group made it a celebration to remember.

It was an honor to be part of the sendoff for one of our Founding Circle members as he prepares for his next chapter. Josh, congratulations on your upcoming wedding. We were glad to give you a proper Valkyrie’s Kiss sendoff, and be sure to raise a glass and toast to sweet beginnings.

The Why Behind Hive & Hop

Hive & Hop was created by Valkyrie's Kiss Mead as a way to bring people together around craft beverages, community, and a shared appreciation for the work that goes into both brewing and mead making. While beer and mead are at the center of the event, the bigger vision is to create something that brings the community together.

Our goal:
Is to build Hive & Hop into a yearly gathering that includes local breweries, meaderies, nonprofits, and organizations that care about the same things we do, supporting local businesses, educating people about honey and pollinators, and creating a place where people can connect and enjoy great craft beverages together.

Each year we hope to grow the event, involve more partners, and continue building something that the community can be proud of.
