Smarty’s Saloon 🤝 Downtown Negaunee Restaurants.

There are many good eats on Iron Street, but what a lot of people don’t know is that we allow carry in food from these businesses and that we are also DoorDash friendly (if no other downtown options are available of course 😉).

We’ve always had take out menus from surrounding restaurants available upon ask, but it was a more of a if you know you know kind of basis, which is a problem when we lack a kitchen in house and really love to see our downtown friends thrive.

The only two things we ask is that:

1.) If you ask for a To-Go menu from your bartender to please return it back to the bar when finished, as we only have a limited amount of them.

2.) Please make it easy on our staff and clean up after yourself!

That’s all, that’s it!

We only have one of these posters posted in the meantime, but are working on another for the front of our building.

We are hoping this will be to the benefit of our growing downtown area and we are so so excited to share this perk with you, our friends on the street, and visitors to come!

On behalf of all of us at Smarty’s Saloon, we would appreciate you joining us this Memorial Day as we remember all of our friends who can’t be here today. (Our apologies for any we may have forgotten).

We miss you dearly.

Until we meet again. ♥️🍻

For all you Schlitz fans….

Rip 🪦

Raise your hand if you used to drink Schlitz, or your parents or grandparents were Schlitz fans. It’s time for us to cry in our beer. 🍺

Schlitz is going out of business. It’s one of America’s iconic beer brands. The last barrel of Schlitz is to be brewed this weekend in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Sentinel. “The beer that made Milwaukee famous” will be gone for good.

August Krug started a brewery in Milwaukee in 1849. A year later, he hired a bookkeeper, Joseph Schlitz. When Krug died in 1856, Schlitz bought the brewery, put his name on the beer, and two years later Schlitz married Krug’s widow.

Schlitz and Anheuser-Busch were the two biggest breweries in America in the 1900s. Through the 1950s and well into the 1960s, Schlitz was still huge. Schlitz changed its brewing process in 1967, and the taste didn’t sit well with drinkers. In 1976, Schlitz beer looked cloudy, and it was another blow to the brand. In the early 1980s, a dispute with labor unions was another setback.

Schlitz most recently was owned by Pabst. Because of declining sales, Pabst opted to pull the plug on the Schlitz brand. This weekend’s barrel of Schlitz is a love letter to our state, the brewer told The Milwaukee Sentinel.

Share your Schlitz memories in comments. 🍺
