The Nashville Jazz Workshop presents Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum at the 2nd Annual Nashville Jazz Festival! 🎷

Whalum is the Memphis-born legend behind the iconic sax solo on Whitney Houston’s, “I Will Always Love You.” He’s also collaborated with Luther Vandross, Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, and Bob James. With more than 25 solo albums — including the acclaimed Gospel According to Jazz series — and a member of the group BWB alongside Rick Braun and Norman Brown, Whalum brings a sound that is undeniably his to every performance.

Meet our new Director of Education, Desmond Ng!

Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Desmond Ng is one of Nashville’s most in-demand trombonists, with credits alongside Frankie Valli, Maren Morris, Dan + Shay, and CeCe Winans, to name a few.

His diverse recording portfolio spans film and video game soundtracks as well as his own acclaimed compositions – including a big band piece presented at the 2024 International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers Symposium.

Desmond currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Jazz Trombone at Middle Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University.

On Saturday, September 12th, pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer Will Barrow brings a genre-spanning career to Nashville Jazz Workshop for an evening that reimagines classical piano works — Bach, Grieg, Debussy, Ravel, and Scriabin — through modern rhythms and improvisation.

The program also draws on Brazilian music, the songs of Bacharach and Mancini, and Barrow’s own original compositions and songs.
