Where it comes from:
The holiday has its roots in Sweden, where it’s called “Våffeldagen.” Interestingly, the name likely evolved from a linguistic mix-up. The Christian holiday “Vårfrudagen” (Our Lady’s Day, tied to the Feast of the Annunciation) sounded similar to “Våffeldagen,” and over time, waffles became part of the tradition.
