Hey Goose Lake friends, neighbors.

For those who may not have heard, Tom Schmitt, better known around here as “Schmitty,” passed away this past June. On Sunday, September 13th, from 12pm-4pm, we’re getting together at the Goose to celebrate him the way we think he would’ve appreciated.

Schmitty was a Goose Lake resident for 40 years, a former GLA board member, and long time staple at the bar. Schmitty always wanted to be involved and he helped us with so much over the years, whether we asked him to or not 😂 He really cared about this place, and to us and his family it just felt right to celebrate him right here in the bar.

It also happens to be the first home Bears game of the season, so let’s make an afternoon of it. We’ll be doing a potluck, with Schmitty’s family providing fried chicken. If you’re able, please bring a dish to pass, grab a drink from the bar, watch some football, and spend the afternoon with us in celebrating Tom’s life.

Most importantly, bring your stories, as that is how he wished his life to be celebrated. And we know there are plenty. So come by and help us raise a glass and remember Schmitty.

Livin’ On a Dreamsicle by Unpossible Mead!

If you’re a fan of orange dreamsicles, this one is definitely worth a try. Sweet, creamy, citrusy and super refreshing!

Even better, Unpossible Mead is locally owned by a Coal City alum and operates right out of Dwight, so we’re extra excited to give this one some cooler space. We love getting the chance to support local whenever we can!

Never tried mead before? Mead is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey mixed with water and may also contain ingredients such as fruits, spices, or hops. And this one is a great way for first timers to get properly introduced! 👀🍯
