We had 3 generations stay at the Butterfly Bungalow this weekend. He brought his 5 year old and grandmother to visit family.

It reminded me of a road trip that my cousin and I took with our grandparents. We drove from Texas to New York, and quite honestly probably drove them crazy! My cousin and I were 11 or 12 so we were chatterboxes the entire trip. When we got to the hotel they were ready for bed. Not us, we were wound up and kept them awake most of the night laughing!

What is your best memory of a road trip as a kid?

🌸FUN FACT: Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) is a tough vase-shaped shrub known for its prolifoc, summer blooms. It can tolerate partial shade, but it thrives best in full sun making it an excellent, low maintenance landscaping choice for Texas.

What's even crazier is that my Mom had several of them in Cuba NY. They can withstand winter temperatures below 20 degrees as well as our brutally hot Texas summers!

🌺 FUN FACT: The Passion Vine is one of my favorite flowers. It pops up in random places on the property. They typically grow on fences, trellises, or arbors. These sweet and earthy-scented vines can grow up to 30 feet long. Most, but not all, passion flowers produce edible, slightly tart fruits. Depending on the type, passion flowers attract bees, butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds.

Sunday Fun-day!! Someone installed a new fence, and I managed to reclaim the old cedar pickets. A good cleaning and removal of a few hundred nails needs to be done before I can upcycle them for my next DIY project at the 1486 Hideaway.

Steps for upcycling an old trash can...

1) Empty the trash into the dumpster.
2) Turn can upside down.
3) Drill two 1" drain holes in the bottom.
4) Place ugly trash can inside really cool trash bin.
5) Create a trash can lasagne by rotating branches, twigs, leaves, dirt, cardboard.
6) Insert root bound plant.
7) Add Miracle Grow potting soil around roots.
8) Grab some of your wandering jew and shove it in the dirt around the bottom of the plant.
9) Add a couple of big ol' earth worms.
10)Give the plants a good drink.
11) Cross your fingers and hope the plants grow big and strong!

3 day weekends are the best!

✅ Reset the Ladybug Lodge and the Butterfly Bungalow to get them ready for our next guests.
✅ Exterminated around the buildings.
✅ Picked up branches that had fallen during the recent storm.
✅ Cleaned the patio.
✅ A root bound plant got a new home.

Spencer and Keebo stayed in our Ladybug Lodge since Thursday. They checked out an hour ago and barely got out of the driveway before sending me the nicest message.

Shortly afterwards I grabbed clean linens and towels to get the cottage ready for our next guests. The first thing I saw when I walked in was a handwritten note and a super cool crocheted flower pot! I can't stop smiling!
