Work is underway 💪 One of the biggest challenges of building something here is that the building itself was…rough. Years of neglect showed up in every corner - and yet, all I’ve ever seen when I looked at it was what it could be. To get anywhere in Montezuma you’d have to drive past this building, so even when I’m overwhelmed by it I still have to look at it every day! The masonry work is underway. The interior is going through its THIRD round of demolition. The architectural plans are nearing completion. The third round of menu trials is scheduled. We’ve started interviewing food suppliers and picking out interior finishes.

The physical transformation begins next week with some much needed brick repair! What color do you think the building should be painted once the brick repair is complete? Needs to be earth tones.

The last few weeks at Odd Bigfoot have been about tightening the bolts and moving from concepts into ex*****on.

Plans are being finalized. I am working closely with a restaurant consultant and chef to dial in the kitchen layout, workflow, and menu. Exterior masonry work starts next week. I have been meeting with produce suppliers and cooking through menu items to lock flavors, sourcing, and consistency.

This is the stage where nothing looks exciting from the outside, but everything matters. How the kitchen works under pressure. What ingredients we commit to. What ends up on your plate and why. These decisions shape whether this place lasts.

Grateful for the patience, encouragement, and steady support. Momentum is building.

Cheers,
Austin

We need your help!!! Organic farm to table is the direction food is heading. People want fewer chemicals, cleaner ingredients, and a closer connection to the farms that grow their food. That is the long-term goal for Odd Bigfoot as we get ready to open.

Our menu is fresh pub food with a Southern lean. Shareables like fried green tomatoes, potato skin chili boats, and house-pickled veggies. Smash burgers and grilled cheese melts. Wraps plus fried or grilled chicken. Salads built from real produce. Sides like charred corn, roasted vegetables, and apple pecan slaw. Desserts like bread pudding and peach cobbler milkshakes. Simple food made with care.

To bring this vision fully to life, we want to source as much as possible from the farms and growers around us. If you know local farmers, gardeners, beekeepers, egg providers, foragers, or small producers in Middle Georgia, tell us. Comment below or send us a message.

Odd Bigfoot wants to build this menu with the help of the community it serves. Your recommendations will shape who we partner with and how close we get to true farm to table.

Guys! I’ve been on a mission recently to learn what businesses were in this building over time, and boy did Mr. McKenzie (previous building owner) come through. I’m going to add a plaque on the outside of each space showing the history of each space. A BOWLING ALLEY?!

For anyone who grew up in Montezuma/Macon County or has photos of yourself, your friends, or your family here, I’d love to see them. I want to fill the restaurant with real local moments because this place should feel rooted in the people who shaped this town. Candid photos are preferred.

If you have digital copies, send them to me by message. If you have physical prints, we can coordinate a handoff. I can’t promise every photo will be used, but I’d be grateful to see anything you want to share.

Example below. Colored photos and black-and-whites are welcome!

Best,
Austin

Work is underway! This weekend the exterior is getting prepped for masonry work to secure all of the loose bricks and replace a lot of mortar that’s turned to sand. Also, we’re finishing cleaning out what’s going to be the Beer Garden space so a structural engineer can get in there next week to tell us what to do to make it super secure and safe.

Once the masonry work is complete, then we paint!
