LOOK UP — FALL RAPTOR MIGRATION IS UNDERWAY IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN!

The Michigan Wine & Beer Portal, right along the River Raisin, offers a beautiful place to relax and watch one of fall’s most impressive natural spectacles: the annual migration of hawks, eagles, and other raptors through the western Lake Erie corridor.
Each fall, thousands of birds of prey move south through Southeast Michigan.

Because many raptors avoid long flights over open water, the geography of western Lake Erie, the River Raisin, and nearby river corridors helps concentrate their movement through our region.

From the Portal’s riverside setting, keep your eyes on the sky for migrating Hawks, Eagles, Osprey, Falcons, and other raptors moving through the area.

The best time to watch is generally September through November:

September brings some of the biggest migration days, especially for Broad-winged Hawks and other early migrants.

October is an excellent month for variety of hawk and falcon species moving through.

November can be especially exciting for larger, later-season raptors, including more eagle activity and the possibility of spotting a Golden Eagle… which would be incredibly special!

There is something unforgettable about sitting along the River Raisin with a Michigan craft beverage or specialty coffee and suddenly seeing a hawk soaring overhead, an eagle moving downriver, an Osprey fishing or a group of migrating raptors riding the autumn thermals.

Come enjoy the river. Watch the skies. Experience fall migration from the Michigan Wine & Beer Portal. Open Monday - Saturday.

On Patriots Day Today, September 11, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001. May we never forget.

We honor the firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, first responders, and ordinary citizens who showed extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

We also remember the spirit of unity that followed — neighbors helping neighbors, communities coming together, and people across the country finding strength in service to one another.

We reflect and want to thank those who continue today to bravely serve our community and nation on the front lines. Thank you to our firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, first responders and members of our military. You are extraordinary!!! THANK YOU

Today let us all remember and be grateful. May we never forget those who we lost, those who continue to answer the call to serve, and the enduring strength of the American people when we come together despite our differences.

We Remember. We Honor. We Serve.

Thank You, City of Monroe!

We want to give a special thank you to the City of Monroe for continuing to make our community such a beautiful place to live, work, visit, and enjoy.

The new mural along the River Walk beneath the Monroe Street Bridge is a wonderful addition to Downtown Monroe and the River Raisin. It adds even more color, character, and creativity to one of our community’s most scenic areas.

From the patio at the Michigan Wine & Beer Portal and River Raisin Trading Post, we already enjoy an incredible view of the River Raisin — and this new artwork makes that view even more impressive!

Projects like this help create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike, while showcasing the pride and creativity that make Monroe special.

Thank you, City of Monroe, for investing in our riverfront, our downtown, and the beauty of our community. We appreciate everything you do to make Monroe a destination we can all be proud of!

It is fun to watch the mural come to life! Check it out in-person and enjoy the wide variety of birds that love the River Raisin in Monroe as well!
