We are pleased to announce that Nicholas Carlisle, PhD, JD, has been selected as the incoming Chief Executive Officer of AIDS Alabama.

An Alabama native, Dr. Carlisle brings more than 20 years of experience working alongside people living with HIV and communities most impacted by the epidemic, both domestically and internationally.

Before joining AIDS Alabama, Dr. Carlisle served as Deputy Director of the Center for the Study of Sexual and Gender Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he conducted public health research focused on improving health outcomes for people living with HIV and communities most impacted by the epidemic.

He previously served as Executive Director of the Southern AIDS Coalition, where he worked to strengthen the South's response to HIV and advance health equity across the region. He also served as Executive Director of Thrive Alabama, was a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer, and created Alabama's first legal program for people living with HIV.

Throughout his career, Dr. Carlisle has combined public health, law, advocacy, research, and nonprofit leadership to expand access to care, reduce stigma, and improve health outcomes for people living with HIV. His work reflects a deep commitment to community, dignity, and the belief that every person deserves access to compassionate, high-quality services and support.

Dr. Carlisle shared:
"AIDS Alabama has made a profound difference in my life and in the lives of so many people living with or vulnerable to HIV. To now be entrusted with helping carry that work forward is an extraordinary honor. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and excited to work alongside AIDS Alabama's staff, board, partners, and the people we serve to advance this lifesaving work in service to a community I love."

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Nicholas Carlisle to AIDS Alabama as we begin this exciting new chapter together.
