An Ode to Queso

Oh queso, dear queso, so creamy and bright,
You make every taco and chip feel just right.
Golden and melty, a glorious sight,
We’d eat you for breakfast, for lunch, and all night.

A dip? A topping? A meal? Who can say?
We’re pretty sure queso deserves its own day.
In fact, if we’re being honest, we’d gladly confess,
A bathtub of queso sounds oddly… not less.

So for your next party, reunion, or bash,
Skip the tiny bowl, don’t be modest with cash.
Order a vat so enormous and grand,
It takes two strong people just to help it land.

Whether you’re feeding ten people or ninety-two,
Our catering queso is ready for you.
Just don’t blame us later if guests start to fight,
Over the very last scoop on tortilla chip night.

Need catering? We can provide enough queso that, hypothetically speaking, you could take a bath in it.

Did you know the American flag wasn’t officially adopted until June 14, 1777? That’s right, Old Glory is celebrating a birthday today!

The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, and the 50 stars represent the 50 states that make up our nation today. While the design has changed over the years, the flag has remained a symbol of freedom, perseverance, and the idea that people from all different backgrounds can come together as one.

Speaking of bringing people together… that’s kind of our favorite thing too. Whether it’s around a dinner table, a basket of chips and salsa, or a jumbo margarita shared with friends, some of life’s best moments happen when we gather together.

So today, take a moment to appreciate the flag, the freedoms it represents, and the people you’re lucky enough to share a meal with.

We also hope everyone made it through last night’s weather safely with minimal damage.

If the storms left you without power today, come hang out with us. Charge your phone, fill your tummy, enjoy some air conditioning, and let us take one thing off your plate for a while.

We’re open all weekend from 10 AM–10 PM, with hot food, cold drinks, free Wi-Fi, and a place to relax while you wait for the lights to come back on.

Now THAT is how you spend a summer evening in Michiana.

This week, we had the privilege of catering a riverfront gathering for an amazing local RV company on the Upper St. Joe River. If you’ve ever been around this crew, you know they’re more than coworkers, they’re family.

With Aiden Brown providing the soundtrack, boats tied up along the shore, and Monterrey serving up a full spread of fajitas and all the fixings, it was one of those evenings that reminds you what summer is all about.

Good music. Good food. Good people.

The kind of night where conversations last longer than planned, nobody checks the time, and the catering pans come back a whole lot lighter than they arrived.

We’re grateful to have been invited to be part of such a special event, and we’re especially thankful the storms held off long enough for everyone to enjoy a beautiful evening on the river.

After lots of votes and friendly debate, this was the winning design, and we’re so glad it was. If you’ve been meaning to grab one, now’s the time. When the sale ends tomorrow, this shirt is officially retired and won’t be available again.

🚐💚 TODAY is a big day for Rescue Release Repeat!

They’re heading out to look at what could be their next rescue vehicle, a safer, more reliable van that would help transport injured and orphaned wildlife, get animals to veterinary appointments, and respond to emergency calls throughout our community. Not to mention they could do all of this with A/C, which they have been operating without. Have you poked your head outside today?

They’ve made incredible progress, but they’re still working toward their fundraising goal and have raised about one-third of the amount needed so far.

Our smallest helper spent part of his day watering the flowers out front, and it got us thinking…

The things we want to grow need our attention. Gardens need water. Friendships need time. Families need patience. Communities need people willing to show up, even in small ways.

Most growth doesn’t happen all at once. It’s a little bit each day, a little encouragement here, a little kindness there. Before you know it, something beautiful starts to bloom.

You voted, and this design won by a landslide!

Now through June 12th, we’re offering this limited-edition Monterrey shirt for $20, and 100% of the profits will be donated to Rescue Release Repeat and their urgent need.

Right now, Rescue Release Repeat is trying to raise $5,000 for a rescue vehicle. Their current vehicle has a failing transmission, no air conditioning, and isn’t large enough to safely transport the hundreds of injured and orphaned animals they care for each year.

A new cargo van would help them:
🦝 Transport injured and orphaned wildlife safely
🦉 Respond to emergency intakes across our area
🦊 Get animals to veterinary appointments and release sites
🐿️ Move supplies, enclosures, and equipment
📚 Travel to educational events that help teach our community about local wildlife

Every shirt purchased helps move them closer to that goal. If we raise more than the van goal, every additional dollar will still go directly to Rescue Release Repeat to support their ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

What’s on your summer bingo card this year? Vacations, open houses, weddings, lake weekends, camping trips, concerts, accidentally spending too much at the farmers market, or simply surviving the kids being home all day?

Around here, our summer bingo card includes free family-friendly trivia every Monday at 6:30 PM, Taco TUNESday every Tuesday from 6–8 PM, helping with graduations, summer parties and weddings through catering, and hosting all kinds of gatherings in our upstairs event space.

This Tuesday, June 9, Jonny Love will be helping us check the “live music on a summer evening” square from 6–8 PM.

We’re also still looking for a few community classes to add to our summer calendar. If you’ve got a hobby, craft, skill, or passion you’d love to share, fill out the link in the comments.
