We will remain open today, January 30th. Now more than ever we need our community. We need a safe place, stability, and survival. We continue to support the ICE OUT strike in solidarity with our people, our city and our state.

We are immigrants and descendants of immigrants. Our families made enormous sacrifices — long hours, risk, uncertainty, separation, and fear — all to create better lives for the next generation. This business exists because of those sacrifices.

Today, we encourage you to support Indigenous, immigrant, and BIPOC-owned businesses who are being hit the hardest right now. There are so many and this community needs that love.

Today we are donating all proceeds from to the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund (IRRF). This Minnesota-based, community-led fund provides fast emergency support for immigrant and refugee families — including legal aid, housing, food, and protection during times of crisis.

In an effort to show solidarity with our immigrant and refugee neighbors, The Linden Hills Neighborhood Council (LHiNC) invites neighbors to display the symbol of the monarch butterfly visibly and proudly from their homes.

The monarch butterfly has become a powerful symbol of migration, resilience, and hope.
Each year, monarchs travel thousands of miles across borders drawn by humans, guided only by instinct, survival, and the promise of renewal. Their journey mirrors that of families who move in search of safety, opportunity, and a better life.

The monarch reminds us that this continent is borderless in spirit. Long before lines were drawn on maps, movement was natural, necessary, and sacred. Like the butterfly, people migrate not to take, but to live, to work, and to belong.

In their fragile strength, we see courage. In their flight, we see hope. 🦋

On January 23rd, Nico’s Tacos will be closed in observance of ICE OUT Day, as an act of solidarity with the immigrant community we are proud to be a part of.

Nico’s was built by our family, and our food tells a story of who we are and where we come from. Every dish carries our history, our culture, and the sacrifices made long before this business ever existed.
The sacrifices that are so deeply woven into immigrant culture—hard work, resilience, and showing up for one another—are what create something truly beautiful and meaningful.

We are so grateful to our community who continue to stand with us and protect us. To our neighbors that stand guard to ensure we all arrive to work safely, and get home safely.

On this day we are choosing to stand with our community, and for humanity. No one should live in fear for simply seeking a better life. Strong communities are built when immigrants feel safe, seen, and supported.

Out of deep care and respect for our employees and our community, we have decided to temporarily close our Uptown location. Recent circumstances have directly impacted members of our team, and we believe it is important to give everyone the time and space to support one another, and thoughtfully navigate what comes next.
Our staff is the heart of this restaurant. Their safety, well-being, and peace of mind will always come before operations. Taking this pause allows us to act with intention and responsibility during a difficult moment. This is not about legal status - this is about a group of people being targeted for their ethnicity. It’s about feeling unsafe in their neighborhood and in their community. Legal citizens are being wrongfully detained and mistreated.

To our customers and neighbors: MUCHAS GRACIAS to everyone who has reached out in so many ways - your kindness, loyalty and continued support mean everything to us and our amazing employees. We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that values our gente above all else.

Our plan is to re-open Thursday at 4pm. We will continue to share updates as we know them.
