Before he was Stan Mayslack, he was Stashu Myslajek — a kid born to Polish immigrants on the Nordeast streets in 1911.

Then he started wrestling. He debuted in 1932, trained by Joe Stecher, the Nebraska Farm Boy whose body scissors took the U.S. heavyweight title three times. Over the next decade he worked the Midwest, Texas, California, Seattle. Somewhere in there the promoters got hold of his name and anglicized it, because you can believe a villain called Mayslack but nobody’s getting scared of a guy named Myslajek.

He also wrestled as The New Masked Marvel. And as Saint Stanley.

Over 1,100 matches on record.

Twenty-three years later he hung it up, bought a corner bar on 4th St NE, and started making sandwiches. 🥩

That's the number you'd have dialed to reach Mayslack's in 1955, the year Stan bought the place off the Johnsons. Eisenhower was president. The ad promised air conditioning like it was a luxury, which it was.
