It is official and bittersweet, but Top Dawgs is no more! We have sold our business, and Top Dawg has joined the retirement team, giving up his duties at the grill and moving to the front porch. After 20-plus years and the many memories that have resulted, this was not an easy decision to make.
For a couple of truck drivers who knew nothing about the food industry, we were welcomed, supported, and encouraged by a small, warm community, even though we didn’t have roots.
Over the years, we became famous for our 108-burger menu serving 108 burgers on State Hwy 108. By famous, I mean Ripley's Believe It or Not, major city newspapers, Food Network, and Ghostbusters. Yes, some believe we also had ghosts—guests from all 50 states and 6 countries.
The memories are endless and the friendships irreplaceable. To name a few, such as the day we decided to expand, when half a dozen locals turned their barstools around to watch a couple of others cut a hole in the wall with a chainsaw. The fundraiser in the back parking lot was for an amazing local who everyone knew and loved. The gentleman from Mexico who expressed his excitement upon entering the front door, having previously heard of our establishment and finding it remarkable to be present, finally. The retired couple riding their bicycles from Washington to Maine took a detour to visit us. The 2 bartenders from Tomah who just jumped in to help when we were wall-to-wall. The customers that were taught how to drink an actual big ass beer, to the ones that thought they could eat a big ass burger or a 108-ounce steak. You know who you are.
The many outstanding employees and families we met over the years have happily served all. The bikers stopped aplenty, the 4 wheelers coming through on a run. Monday morning church group and the Wednesday morning breakfast club. The endless everyday supporters from both near and far.
Memories and friendships made and sadly some lost over so many years, too many to list. It has been a ride, and we can’t thank everyone enough or show our true gratitude for all.
Top Dawgs and the 108 burger menu are closed and gone forever, but the memories, community, and customers will live on forever!
Thank you everyone for the amazing ride!!
