That wall used to be a floor. Not reclaimed wood from somewhere else, not a design choice made to make a newer space feel like it has history. It was the actual original floor from the second level of this building, taken down board by board during renovations and brought back to life on the wall you see when you walk into our front party room.
The second floor was being converted into my office and storage space. When the floor had to come up, we were left with a decision about what to do with something that had been in this building far longer than we have.
The easy answer was to haul it out. We didnāt take the easy answer. Every board was pulled carefully, nail by nail, so nothing would split and nothing would be wasted.
My dad did most of that work.. and if you knew him, that wouldnāt surprise you. That kind of patience with something old and worth saving is something he always had.
They came downstairs and became the accent wall in the front seating area. Same wood, same building, almost a hundred years in one place and now a second life in another.
Thereās something about that we keep coming back to. This building and community has earned the right to be treated with some care. Millstadt has a long memory,Ā the Liederkranz, the original brewery that Prohibition shut down and never came back, the families who built something lasting here in a town founded in 1837.
Weāre a local business in an old town, and we try to remember that.
The front room where that wall lives is available to rent for private events,Ā Ā and if youāve been looking for the right space for a birthday, anniversary, baby shower, retirement, graduation, holiday party, or even a business meeting, itās worth reaching out.
Thereās no rental fee. We work with you on a minimum tab based on your group size. Youāre welcome to bring in your own food on nights we donāt have a food truck, and decorate the space however fits your event..Ā Ā just please spare us the glitter, and confetti. Our walls have been through enough.
