>> Meet the bandleader, Al Cron!
>> Al Cron is a trombonist, composer, and arranger. A native of upstate New York, Al earned a music education degree from the Crane School of Music before relocating to Miami and later Orlando, Florida. After spending 6 months in Japan performing, Al settled in Boston in the early 90’s and began studying with Hal Crook and later, Bob Brookmeyer, John McNeil, and George Russell while earning a masters degree in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory. An active freelance musician, Al has performed with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and Kenny Rogers among others while appearing regularly with the Kenny Hadley Big Band, Duke Bellaire, and touring with the Artie Shaw Orchestra. As a leader, Al has released two CDs including “1999”and later an experimental project entitled “Circles and Roots” featuring Dave Zinno on bass and Eddie Tomassi on tenor saxophone.
>> The 2025–26 re-release of "The Prowl and Circles and Roots" marks the opening chapter of a new creative era, leading into a forthcoming quartet album of all-new music featuring three of Boston’s most powerful voices: Dave Zinno (bass), Dino Govoni (tenor saxophone), and Brooke Sofferman (drums).
