Hey everyone! I know this page has been quiet for the last month or so, but a lot of things have been going on behind the scenes! In case you didn't see, the city of Meridian had previously approved our permits, and then subsequently reneged after the City Council heard a third party appeal. CBS2 wrote a great story about it, attached below.
We will be posting a lot more in the coming weeks with the latest news. The best thing you can do to help at this time is just share our posts with your friends and get them to follow our page!
In denying this permit, the City of Meridian continues to solidify themselves to be known as "the chain city" of the Treasure Valley, blocking small independent businesses and supporting large national corporations. It is unfortunate that the elected officials are willing to walk away from a project that will provide an estimated $10-20 MILLION in additional revenue from music events alone in order to appease a small group of religious extremists who brought 200 of their church friends to a hearing. Perhaps the separation of church and state isn't as prominent as we thought?
To date we have had to cancel dozens of community events and donations because of the loss of our permit to include:
- Canceled dozens of booked weddings and receptions.
- Canceled several large community and corporate meeting events.
- Canceled dozens of local musicians and promoter events booked across the next year.
- Canceled several fundraisers and pledges to local non-profit organizations for event hosting.
- Canceled tickets and event space donated to the Idaho Humane Society.
The list continues to mount as we reorganize and re-evaluate our use of this space. In the meantime, it is heart breaking to see the community we grew up in to be swayed by false propaganda and the skewed opinions of a few who inappropriately leverage their religious connections.
In the meantime, we are also on the lookout for a new location to place The Oasis project. If we're going to move, let's make it a larger space that can accommodate touring music events! In case you haven't seen, it is much harder to find appropriate commercial space in Meridian than even residential units! If you're a realtor or developer and know of something, send us a message!
Tell us your thoughts below! What would you like to see this space at Eagle/Ustick become? A new billiards location? Perhaps a comedy club? Stay tuned.
It was a long, and likely frustrating night forBrian Tsai, owner of the proposed Oasis nightclub in Meridian. The city council on Tuesday voted unanimously to deny the permit, which had previously been OK'd by the city's planning and zoning commission. The majority of the attendees were not too happ...
