Tiki Brewing Company

Tiki Brewing Company Tiki Brewing Company is not so much a business as it is an adventure in exploring the art of Zymurgy. Beer sales? Not so much. Great tastes - absolutely!

Boy, it has been too long. This social distancing thing certain makes more time available to brew...just not as much time to share with others. I came up with an Easter Brew. Its called Empty Tomb Easter NEIPA.

The Tap List has been finalized for this year's Tiki Halloween! Look for a couple traditionals and a couple new brews. We can't have Halloween without Jack D'Ripper, that smooth Porter infused with some liquid Lynchburg. Hijacked Mac is back as well, Some NH (Sorry, no NJ) pressed apples fermented with some homemade caramel. New this year is "Fresh Squished", a pretty grapefruit-forward IPA--No sugar added!. Lastly, "Leaf Pile" Brown Ale...Malty, caramelly, and smooth. Makes a nice transition from Fall to Winter.

Mash ton seemed to work well. The temperature held well and the false bottom didnt cause any problems. Efficiency was lower than it should be but I am betting it was mostly my technique that needs correction. We will give it another go next week.

Brew night tonight! It has been too long since I last fired up the kettle. On the menu is a Grapefruit IPA. The thing I like about the recipe is the heavy dry hopping with Chinook. I look forward to that floral aroma! I am also trying out some new equipment this week. Tonight I fired up a 190,000 BTU flame thrower of a cooker. I am afraid to go to Mil Power with it for fear of melting the kettle! Tomorrow I hope to try out the new mash ton. I have one last modification to make. I am hoping to automate the waterflow control from the hot liqour tank. I am thinking the Arduino controller will give me some tune-able flowrate control.

The Velvet Revolution Bohemian Pilsner made its way to the keg this after along with the Dark Tower Sticke Alt. Both were exceptional. I really had my doubts about the Pilsner but the long lagering really smoothed it out. The Pilsner was "seasoned" with Czech Saaz hops. Quite a Bohemian Rhapsody of taste. The Sticke Alt is a recipe derived from those found in Dusseldorf's Altstadt. I can just imagine myself walking down the brick streets to the local brew pub. Wunderbar! Noch ein Bier, Bitte!

Tiki Brewing is in full swing! Brewing the 5th brew of the month and it is only the 15th. Lots of stuff on the Horizon...Super Bowl, ML Brew Fest in February. I sure hope people will be thirsty. We are all over the map too...From an ultra light Czech Pils to a hefty robust stout packed with oatmeal and chocolate. I don't why my mother never let me match up oatmeal that way when I was a kid but it tastes great. More to follow on the breakout of the specific brews!

It is a cold weekend to brew but we gotta get it done! The Medford Lake Brew Fest is only 7 weeks away. I am on my third brew of the weekend. Brrrr. Today is Dusseldorf Sticke Alt.

Another successful Tiki Halloween! The weather was perfect and the crowds flowed through. I think the only possible measurements of numbers are pounds of candy distributed and volume of drinks consumed. Since the candy metric was an afterthought and various adults that abandon their own homes (for the more inviting Tiki atmosphere) dumped in their candy supplies, that is impossible to track. The liquid consumed, however, is tracked: 12 Liters of Root Beer, 4 gallons of hot cocoa, 4 liters of Coke and Fanta Orange, and a gallon of hot spiced cider. Oh yes. Almost forgot...the beer. About 10 gallons of the four kegs on hand. This year's selection included "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a Beer" (Peach Pale Ale), "Sometimes You Don't" (Chocolate Coconut Stout...in response to last year's Almond Joy), "Jack D'Ripper" (Porter fermented with Jack Daniels), and "Hijacked Mac" (a locally produced cider with fermented with home made caramel). Gotta start thinking (and brewing) for next year!

Brewing tonight...a New Year's Eve special. With the annual Medford Lakes brew competition coming, we have to get something going! I think it will be another batch of D'Mango Unchained...an American Pale Ale infused with fresh mango. Just for the fun of it, we will brew some chili and hot gluhwein for any passers-by headed to the canoe drop.
