Pippins BBQ in McDonough received a score of 70 on its most recent Department of Public Health inspection.

Inspector notes included:

* Observed the location did not have a person in charge.

* Observed the location does not have a certified food safety manager.

* Observed raw whole beef and ground beef stored above a pan of cooked oxtails in the reach-in cooler. Also observed boxes of raw pork stored next to cooked oxtails. A case of raw shelled eggs was also stored above ready to eat food.

* Observed several foods that did not meet cold holding requirements.

* Observed several foods being held below the required hot holding temperature of 135 degrees or higher in the steam table.

* Observed several foods not properly date marked in the reach-in cooler including macaroni noodles, cooked ribs, and hot dogs. Several cold foods exceeded the expiration/disposal date including oxtails, whole milk, and two containers of brisket juice.

Every town that turned itself around started the same way.

One person who refused to accept decline.

Not a mayor. Not a developer. Not a consultant. Just someone who looked around at what was happening and decided they weren't okay with it.

They pulled some weeds. They organized a cleanup. They opened a business when everyone said it wouldn't work. They showed up to council and kept showing up.
