Friends, my thought was to edit, but I am compelled to share the unedited version of what one of our beloved staff shared with me when I checked in. Burnout is real, and Self-care is so important, and I’m constantly reminding our staff that we must recognize our limitations as individuals, as an agency, and as a community. We can’t respond as quickly as we like or provide all that is needed. I am humbled to work alongside the staff, board, and volunteers at APTS who give 100%. Everyday I am amazed at the dedication, the love, the talent. With permission, I hope you will indulge me to the end.

β€œIt's raw as hell, but call log for June is a lil scary. A lot of it is that middle ground. Folks who don't qualify for permanent supportive housing (PSH), but they're still homeless and living in their cars, can't get a deposit when rent is $1500, have an eviction, don't make 3x/rent, don't have 3 months of pay stubs, have pets, or flat out can't afford it. Shout out to St. Andrews for helping with one case, but that one is scary because they were trying to get stable and keep getting rejected by all the places they apply, and they were at risk of slipping further into sleeping in their car. We got them resources to get better jobs, still trying to find housing they can afford/will qualify for, but in the meantime, Fr Sean came through to keep them in the motel until client gets paid. They're honestly lovely, grateful folks. They chose to keep their pups rather than risk them being put down, and that caused their landlord to say they had to leave. Anyway, it feels like a tiny victory.

I made a connection with another client who doesn't open up with ANYONE. I hope they will qualify for PSH.

We had a client call to thank us for all our help.

It's rough. There's not enough. Rents are high, and now the majority of our clients are not PSH/Chronically unhoused folks, it's the invisible unhoused, and they probably make up around 50% of the homelessness we are contacted about.

I still love tiny victories. I love when we get thanked. I love when someone trusts me, trusts us. It's not enough, but it's enough for the day sometimes.”
