KANSAS HONOR FLIGHTS

This information to the Post 163 Newsletter provided by Ron Grauer, former Kansas Honor Flight Flight Leader:
I received a recent e-mail from Kansas Honor Flight Headquarters in Hutchinson with a request to pass on the contents of that e-mail in an effort to promote the opportunity for any remaining World War ll, Korean, or Vietnam Veterans who haven’t done so to seriously consider signing up for this trip of a lifetime in recognition of their service time decades ago. I have reported at our regular Post 163 meetings many times that it is an exciting, educational, emotional and service oriented (FREE) three day excursion that brings back those same feelings of comradery that so many experienced as young G.I.’s.
We felt that publishing this in the Newsletter would reach many more individuals than those faithful, though scant, numbers who show up at regular Legion meetings.
The e-mail from Kansas Honor Flight began with: “Every year Kansas Honor Flight loses veterans who wanted to go on a flight to Washington, D. C., but kept WAITING.” So many say, ‘I’ll go later’ or ‘Let someone more deserving go first.’ “Please don’t let them wait.”
In that light, I would invite any of you who fall under these categories to seriously consider this as a tribute to your service as a veteran. You will not be sorry, and I can honestly report that in all of my many trips, and through reports I’ve received since retiring, there have never been any negative responses from returning veterans.
Following is a schedule of flights on the agenda for 2027. KHF is planning flights in June, September and October for next year. The note from KHF Headquarters indicates that they would like applications to be received by December 31, 2026 for these 2027 flights. If any of you are interested in making this most deserving trip, I would be more than happy to help anyone with an application. Otherwise, there are a couple of other ways you can apply. Again, as a reminder. Flights tend to fill up well in advance, so remember, the deadline for this cycle is December 31, 2026.
