2 years ago today marks the French Broad River rushing through Marshall streets and taking a lot of town and lives with it. It was hard that day to understand what was all gonna happen next. Little by little with the help of many we built much of our town back. Mal’s became a better version of itself, and as I like to say….. it was a hell of a way to remodel. Our hopes in starting Mal’s was to have a space for community. To host people, to have seats for everyone to sit together and feel heard and be able to feel sad or silly or whatever they were coming in with. For everyone to feel like they too could have a place like we wanted. Since we’ve reopened we have hosted baby showers and weddings and birthdays, dances, memorials, arm wrestling, and karaoke. Book signing, chili cook offs, karaoke, music jams. We’ve had people passing through to play music that just want to play at this little bar. And all of that… it’s the day to day that’s the most special. That we all get a space to be together. So thank you. Thank you to everyone who thought of us then and still do now, two years later. That helped with donations or buying merch or shoveling or encouraged a wild idea or came to a show or sat at the bar to just be apart of it. Today in town was a special day. And I just cannot kick the feeling of gratitude. There’s been a lot of changes and things keep changing quickly in the world. But I am so grateful for this town and space and that so many people pitched together to keep it alive as we will continue to do with a touch of flair and grit.
