The Bucksnort Saloon, located in historic Marlin, Texas, has been open since September 1, 2017. The owner, Kaylee Ayers, herself a vocalist, opened the Bucksnort Saloon in order to provide local musicians of all genres and artists a venue to share their original works. The Bucksnort Saloon boosts live music every Friday and Saturday night from the best and most diverse musicians in Texas. There is a cozy inside venue and a large courtyard venue for patrons to enjoy the best music and art in Central Texas. The Bucksnort Saloon has a full bar menu with daily specials but does not serve food.
The Bucksnort Saloon is located in a historic building more than 150 years old. The main bar area has always been a bar or saloon formally known as The Tap Room. Kaylee renamed the present day Bucksnort Saloon in honor of the first bar/saloon in the area also called the Bucksnort Saloon. According to the Texas historic society, the McAfee and Marlin families originally settled slightly southwest of present day Marlin close to the Brazos River. They operated a general store which had a saloon in the back. One night an inebriated patron left the saloon but quickly returned stating “Did you hear that buck snort?”. After that the little community was known as Bucksnort, Texas. Bucksnort, Texas is the predecessor to Marlin but sadly no longer exists.
From the turn of the century through WWII, Marlin was world renown for its healing mineral waters and elaborate bath houses. In its day it boosted two train depots, several high rise buildings, the seventh hotel built by Conrad Hilton -- built prior to his Niagra Falls, New York hotel, and summer home to two professional baseball teams. Other industries supporting Marlin included cotton and cattle. Marlin has a number of beautiful old mansions -- many of which have been restored. If you come to the Bucksnort Saloon and want to explore the area a little more, plan on staying at the Three Oaks, a plantation style home located less than one mile from the saloon, where you will be spoiled “Heart of Texas” style. You can book into the Three Oaks through Airbnb or just call Ms. Byrd at 802-342-2400.
