Marion Elks Lodge 32 Cruisers is now being managed by Elks 32. Social room open Tuesday through Saturday 2:30 PM. Harding, was elected Esteemed Loyal Knight.

Marion Lodge 32 was chartered in 1885 as the first small community Elks Lodge in America. Eight years later, the man who would become the 29th President of the United States, Warren G. Marion 32 is steeped in history. They were the first Lodge to hold an annual circus and parade, earning the nickname “the original circus lodge.” Later, in 1913, the Lodge purchased the Grand Opera House and built t

he Elks Temple that the organization still occupies today. It was then that Marion 32 became known as “The Minstrel Lodge” because of the many vaudeville style shows it sponsored. Today, Marion 32 boasts a dining area that will take you back to the twenties, and a Lodge room that retains its entire original splendor. If Elks history is an interest, Marion 32 should be your destination. Marion Elks Lodge 32 presented a $1,000 check to Mayor Bill Collins for the Tall Grass and Nuisance Property program. The funds will be used to purchase new safety equipment and replace old worn equipment used to clean up properties that are overgrown, abandoned or neglected. James R. “Jimmy” Lawson, age 86 of Marion, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at Marion General Hospital.

Jimmy was born June 5, 1937 in Roda, Virginia, the son of James R. and Roxie (Collins) Lawson. In 1960 he enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Cold War being stationed in Berlin, Germany with the 4th Infantry Division.

Jimmy loved to create and play music. He and his brother played in a band and it was music that brought Jimmy to Ohio. He worked in Marion for over 50 years serving as everyone’s favorite bartender at numerous bars and restaurants; most notably the Elks. His patrons were drawn to his easy-going nature, great sense of humor and humble kindness. No matter the weather he always walked to and from work. Jimmy enjoyed watching television, especially Gold Rush and Bar Rescue. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and he enjoyed spending time with his dear friend Marge Armbruster.

He is survived by his children: Chris (Dwight) Hord, Mike (Julie) Lawson and Doug (Teresa) Lawson; grandchildren: Aaron (Summer) Hodges, Ryan Mahle, Crystal Rivers, Rachel Lawson, Katie (Justin Lunsford) Lawson, Samantha Lawson, Brittany (David) Mills, Cody (fiancé Summer Spencer) Downing, and Larkin Downing; great-grandchildren: Ryanna (Caden) Dunn, Braylon Schams, Aria Hodges, and Lucas Mills; great-great grandchild Rayah Dunn; and siblings: Norma Deaner and James Lawson.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Terri Mahle; Siblings: Bobby Lawson, Billy Lawson and Joyce Eldridge and great-grandson Carson Focht.

Memorial service with Military honors will be Saturday September 2, 2023 at American Legion Post 162, 531 Bellefontaine Ave, Marion, OH 43302 at 11AM with a meal to follow.
