Dew Drop Jazz & Social Hall

Dew Drop Jazz & Social Hall Dew Drop is the oldest unaltered Jazz Social Hall, built in 1895. Operated by "Friends of the Dew Drop" 501c3

After the early 1940s when activity ceased at the Dew Drop — replaced by a new organization and a new hall called the Sons and Daughters Hall on Marigny Avenue — the now 113-year-old building has been virtually unused. However, in 2000 the City of Mandeville obtained the building as a civil donation from then owner Jacqueline Vidrine, a Mandeville businesswoman, who also sold the city the plot of

ground on which the building stands. But fortunately, the re-emergence of interest in the long neglected historic treasure did not stop there. In August of 2006 two members of the Mandeville City Council, Zella Walker and Trilby Lenfant, led an effort to create the Friends of the Dew Drop and get the organization registered as a non-profit. That board, composed of citizens of the area with knowledge about musical history of the region and commitment and energy to make the old building a vibrant social, benevolent and educational force again, began meeting and planning in earnest by mid-2007. It produced three standing room only jazz shows in October, November and December of 2007 and is in the midst of planning for a full schedule of events in 2008 and beyond. Many who attend now attest to feeling spirits of former jazz greats who played in the building at the turn of the century and, with the large shutters thrown open and fans sitting on ancient church pew like wooden benches with a spirited jazz band crammed onto the small stage, it is easy to let oneself be transported in time back to the early years of America’s most enduring cultural gift to the world — traditional New Orleans jazz.

The Miles Berry Quartet
Saturday, May 23rd

Mandeville’s native son, Miles Berry and his quartet represent a new generation’s expression of Louisiana jazz, stylistically mixing the old with modern sounds. For Miles, this return to the stage at the historic Dew Drop Jazz & Social Hall is more than a gig – it’s a homecoming. The Mandeville High/NOCCA Grad has made impressive strides in the New Orleans Music scene as both a sideman and stepping out in front of his own group. While last fall Miles appeared with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra at Lincoln Center, this show is a reminder that some of the most powerful music happens when an artist comes home and lets the songs speak for themselves.

Presented by the Friends of the Dew Drop, this concert will feature home-cooked food for purchase provided by the Ladies of First Free Mission Baptist Church, located next door. Soft drinks, water, beer and wine will be available for purchase. The concert begins at 6:30pm and will run till 9pm.

Admission is $15 per adult. Students and children can enter free. No advance ticket sales, pay at entrance when doors open at 5:30pm. No outside food or drinks are allowed and lawn chairs can be used outside the hall on the grounds. Please, no smoking allowed on premises, and no pets allowed.

Jerry Dugger is a seasoned bluesman whose music is rooted in raw emotion, lived experience, and the timeless traditions the blues. Originally from New York and a member of the New York Blues Hall of Fame, New Orleans bluesman Jerry Dugger is the epitome of grit, soul, and guitar work that speaks as clearly as his lyrics, delivering songs that feel honest and deeply human. Drawing inspiration from classic blues storytellers while forging a sound that’s unmistakably his own, Dugger blends slow-burn blues, driving shuffles, and heartfelt ballads. His music reminds listeners why the blues still matter: because truth, struggle, and soul never go out of style.

Help us honor our friend Tanya by giving blood during this Mother’s Day special blood drive event on Sunday, May 10th at The Blood Center in Mandeville from 10am-3pm. Tanya & her tourism team work hard in helping us promote our Northshore community & the Dew Drop’s unique cultural history & importance.

❤️ Every Drop Makes a Difference ❤️

This Mother's Day, a special blood drive is being held in support of our beloved Vice President of Sales and Services, Tanya Leader, CDME, who is currently battling leukemia. Blood donations are critically needed as chemotherapy treatments can impact healthy blood cells for extended periods of time. Your donation this Sunday can honor Tanya, mothers, and grandmothers.

To donate, donors must be 17+ (or 16 with parental consent), in good health, and bring a valid photo ID. Please consider stopping by and being the missing link for someone in need. For questions or to sign up, contact Suzy Potter at 504-939-9609 or [email protected].
