To the Members of the Club Mont Royal,
The Board of Directors would like to address the concerns surrounding the recent Board of Director election held this past Wednesday.
Mr. Bob Hunt was nominated and placed on the ballot for election to the 2026 Board. Unfortunately, it was later discovered that due to an infraction on record (January 2024) with the Club, he did not meet the bylaw requirement of being a member “in good standing” for a period of three years prior to serving. Once this oversight was identified, the Board was obligated to act in accordance with the Club bylaws and remove his name from the ballot.
The Board accepts full responsibility for not identifying this issue sooner. This was an oversight on our part, and we sincerely apologize to Mr. Hunt and to the membership for how this situation was handled. In hindsight, Mr. Hunt absolutely should have received a direct conversation from the Board before any action was taken, and we acknowledge that mistake with humility and regret.
We understand that emotions and frustrations have run high, and we recognize that some members feel hurt, disappointed, or upset by how events unfolded. However, we want to be very clear that there was never any disrespect intended, nor were there any ulterior motives or personal agendas behind this decision. The Board was simply carrying out the responsibility we all swore an oath to uphold — following the bylaws and rules of the Club fairly and consistently.
This Board is made up of hardworking men and woman who genuinely care about Club Mont Royal and its members. Over the past several years, the Club has continued to grow stronger financially, many improvements have been completed throughout the property, and additional projects continue to move forward. We have financial oversight processes, including a Finance Committee, to help ensure accountability and transparency for the future of the Club.
We are proud of the progress being made, but more importantly, we deeply value the members who make this community what it is. We never want any member to feel disrespected, unheard, or singled out.
Mistakes were made in how this matter was handled, and the Board owns that completely. We are committed to learning from this situation and putting procedures in place to ensure something like this does not happen again.
Thank you to all members who continue to support the Club, volunteer their time, provide feedback, and help make Club Mont Royal a place where people can relax, enjoy friendships, and take pride in their community.
Respectfully,
The Board of Directors
Club Mont Royal
