Our sister group Beers&Gears is a Milwaukee, WI group. We hold true to their mission and ideals. This is the bicycle club for all the rest of us who don't really do bike clubs. We meet once a month (at least) at various locations around town and then proceed to wreak mayhem on the fair city of Madison. Routes vary from 10-20 miles and normally include at least 2 to 3 bars or once in a while a brew
ery, for a much needed pit stop. We hope to show folks quick, safe and easy routes to get about town in the process. We're also open to suggestions, so if you know of a better way to get there, let us know via Email or one of our discussion boards. All up coming rides and itineraries will be posted here, so check back often. You'll also find postings to other events worth checking out, so...check back often. There are no registration or membership fees to join our rides. We're only "club" like in regards to friendships and camaraderie formed during our rides. We're more of a bicycle social in reality. The B&G Madison crew only asks that you follow three simple rules:
1. Please be respectful of other traffic on the road. The laws that apply to cars also apply to us. Our job is to promote the benefits of urban cycling, not make it a problem. So there's extra incentive to follow this one.
2. Please don't be snobbish, it's generally frowned upon. We don't care how much you spent on your bike, how many millions of miles you rode, or how many races you placed in. For sure, it's impressive and encourages a few of us but most of us are just out to have some fun. We gladly welcome cyclists of all skill levels to participate. Our goal is to get folks to ride their bikes more often, not intimidate would be cyclists.
3. And a word about safety...hey, we're all about fun here but please don't get out of hand enough to ignore rules 1 and 2. Our ride leaders will not hesitate to eject you from our ride if you're being a nuisance. While we're on the this topic, helmets will not be required but are definitely encouraged. A front or rear bike light will be needed for any rides that last past sundown
Have fun, be safe out there, and come along with us sometime for some pub crawling two wheeled adventures.
