One of the Midwest’s most exciting new voices in modern jazz, funk, gospel, and hip-hop arrives in Madison this summer as L.A. Buckner & Big Homie perform at Gamma Ray on Wednesday, July 15.

Led by acclaimed drummer, composer, producer, and educator Arthur “L.A.” Buckner, the Minneapolis-based ensemble has quickly become one of the region’s most exciting live acts. Their high-energy performances blur the lines between jazz, gospel, hip-hop, avant-funk, and the unmistakable Minneapolis sound, creating an unforgettable concert experience that is equal parts musical virtuosity and celebration.

Buckner, a North Minneapolis native, has earned widespread recognition for his dynamic performances and innovative compositions. A graduate of McNally Smith College of Music with a master’s degree in Percussion Performance, he is also a teaching artist and co-host of PBS’s award-winning Sound Field series. His debut album, BiG HOMiE, reached No. 1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart within 24 hours of its release, while his critically acclaimed album Norfside celebrates the rich musical heritage and culture of North Minneapolis.

The Madison performance comes on the heels of the release of “Watch Your Step,” the band’s energetic new single featuring Grammy Award-winning keyboard virtuoso Cory Henry. The track showcases Buckner’s signature fusion of jazz, funk, gospel, hip-hop, and soul while highlighting the remarkable chemistry between Big Homie and one of today’s most celebrated musicians. The single has generated significant excitement leading into the band’s summer tour and serves as a preview of more new music to come.
