If you’ve spent much time around Bald Top, you probably already know how loved Shine is around here. 🐾🤍

We all know the Shine we get to see at Bald Top — sweet, mellow, and always happy to get a little love. As she’s gotten older, she understandably spends a little less time with us here at BT. So for National Dog Day, we wanted to know a little more about Shine outside of Bald Top — and especially what she was like in her younger, more playful days — so we asked Dave to share some of his favorite stories about her.

Shine is a purebred White German Shepherd and will turn 14 years old on October 20.

According to Dave, she was the inventor of the toothpick game. 😂 It started with a log or branch that she wanted thrown for her. She would retrieve it, chew it down a little smaller, bring it back, and repeat the process until eventually everyone was attempting to play fetch with a toothpick-sized piece.

She also loved riding in the backseat of the truck with her head out the window, and apparently there was very little she wouldn’t happily retrieve if someone was willing to throw it for her.

It’s fun for those of us who know the calm, easygoing Shine of today to hear about that playful pup — and somehow those stories make us love her even more. 🤍 She’s been a special part of Dave’s family for nearly 14 years, and we feel pretty lucky that she’s become such a loved part of the Bald Top family too.

We’ll be celebrating Shine’s 14th birthday on October 17 at Bald Top. 🎉🐶

And because it’s National Dog Day, we want to see the pups you love too! Show us your dogs in the comments and tell us something that makes them uniquely them. 🐾
