5 Things We've Learned Owning Embars for 2 Years 🍸

1. You're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
What people see are the cocktails, events, and packed nights. What they don't see are the early mornings, late nights, inventory, scheduling, cleaning, troubleshooting, and countless decisions being made behind the scenes. Owning a business is a lot less glamorous—and a lot more rewarding—than we ever imagined.

2. Our team is everything.
And when I say team, I mean everyone. Our staff, our families, our friends, fellow business owners, and the people who step in when we need a hand. No business succeeds because of one person. It takes a village, and we've been lucky to have an incredible one.

3. The moments matter more than I expected.
We never realized how many special moments we'd get to witness. First dates, anniversaries, birthdays, promotions, reunions, and celebrations big and small. For me, being a small part of people's memories has filled a place in my heart I didn't even know existed.

4. It's never really been about the drinks.
Sure, we serve cocktails, but what we've really created is a place for people to gather. A place to catch up with old friends, meet new ones, celebrate milestones, unwind after a long week, or simply enjoy being together. In a world where everyone is busy and connected through screens, We've come to appreciate how important it is to have a place where people can sit down, share a conversation, and enjoy each other's company.

5. The business changes you.
We thought we were building a bar. In reality, the bar was building us too. It's taught us resilience, patience, leadership, humility, and how to keep moving forward even when things don't go according to plan.

Two years later, We're incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported Embars, worked alongside us, and walked through our doors.

Here's to Year 3. ❤️

Minnesota heroes. A story we should never forget. 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day weekend, as we honor those who served and sacrificed, here’s a powerful piece of Minnesota history many people have never heard.

The Minnesota National Guard’s 194th Tank Battalion — originally the 34th Tank Company out of Brainerd — became part of the very first U.S. tank battalion sent into combat overseas during WWII. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, these young men were deployed to the Philippines where they fought in the brutal defense of Bataan against impossible odds.

Outnumbered, exhausted, starving, and low on supplies, they continued fighting until the surrender of Bataan on April 9, 1942. What followed was the horrific Bataan Death March — a forced march where thousands of American and Filipino prisoners of war died from starvation, exhaustion, disease, and abuse.

The men from Minnesota became known as the “Battling Bastards of Bataan,” and their legacy still lives on today through the Soldiers of the 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 194th Armor Regiment. Their motto remains: “Remember Bataan… Never Forget.”

Minnesota’s last known survivor of the 194th Tank Battalion, Walter Straka, passed away on July 4, 2021, at 101 years old — a patriot until the very end.

Every year, soldiers, veterans, families, and civilians continue honoring these heroes through the annual Bataan Memorial March at Camp Ripley. The public is welcome to participate alongside Minnesota Soldiers to help carry on the memory and sacrifice of those who endured the march in 1942.

Follow their page to stay updated and get information on this year’s Bataan Memorial March and how you can take part in honoring these brave Soldiers. ❤️

Remember Bataan. Never Forget.

We’ve always loved old buildings and the way people can reimagine them into something new while still keeping the history and character that make them special. Maybe that’s part of owning a business in a historic building ourselves.

We stopped at Sleepy Eye Brewing Co. to pick up our latest beer order and I had to grab a few clips while we were there. The building used to be the local movie theater, and they’ve turned it into such a neat space without losing what made the building unique in the first place.

Also, I had a breakfast sandwich from Sleepy Eye Coffee Co. that I’m still thinking about 😂 The only way I can describe it is like a jalapeño popper breakfast sandwich and it was SO good.

If you’re up for a day trip — or already nearby — definitely worth stopping in.

One sip of Aloha Girl and suddenly mentally you’re nowhere near Minnesota anymore 🍍☀️🍺

It’s light, tropical, crisp, and somehow tastes like the kind of beer you’d drink barefoot near the ocean with absolutely no responsibilities. The kind of beer that makes winter feel very far away and summer feel officially here.

Honestly, it’s become one of those beers people try once and keep coming back for.

And yes — we’ve got it cold and ready at Embars 😎
