For more than a century, Hammels have worked the rich soil of Burth County

And for the past 20 years, I’ve grown hops as a hobby, for my own home brew and for others.

Now I’ve kicked it up a notch, growing nearly 1/4th of an acre of hops at the Hammel Family Farm near Lyons, NE. It’s been a rewarding endeavor knowing that my Nebraska-grown hops -- lovingly grown and harvested by hand -- have gone into some of the best beer brewed in the Cornhusker State. When I’m not in the hop yard, you’ll find me behind a laptop, writing stories for the Omaha World-Herald. Or out in the outdoors with my family, friends and hunting dog. Slante!
