*PERSONAL POST*.
On Thursday, the blues hit me hard.
I was overcome with grief, missing my mother so deeply that I almost canceled on a wedding Friday. The pain was so heavy that all I wanted to do was shut down.
But as a business owner, I knew I had to show up.... So I did and we stayed ahead of schedule and everyone enjoyed their bar experince!
As my staff member and I were setting up my L-shape bar, I looked up and heard someone yell, "Hey! You're Alex's sister, right?" I smiled and said yes before she hurried off with the rest of the wedding party for the ceremony.
About 15 minutes later, I got a text from my brother asking, "Are you working a wedding in Portsmouth?" It turned out to be his good friend's cousin's wedding.
After the ceremony, both my sister's friend and my brother's friend came over together to introduce themselves. Neither of them knew I would be there in advance so it was a genuine moment. They noticed my logo, and knew the story behind Muse Mixers & Elixirs, and my brothers friend came back to the bar later and told me that my mom would be incredibly proud of what I've built.
My brother's friend shared memories of meeting my mother and spoke about what a beautiful soul she was. My sister's friend even took pictures of me behind the bar with my logo, and started talking about how she has known another mutual family friend her whole life too.
Moments like these remind me why I believe everything happens for a reason.
When grief feels overwhelming, God, the universe, fate- whatever you believe in, has a way of placing people exactly where they need to be to remind us why we keep going.
Muse Mixers & Elixirs was born from love, loss, and legacy.
It's about creating the moments people hold close to their hearts. The photos they frame, the videos they replay, the laughter they remember years later. It's about celebrating life's milestones while honoring the people who helped shape us.
I'm here to keep my mother's legacy alive, one event, one toast, and one meaningful memory at a time.
And after yesterday, I have no doubt she was right there with me behind the bar.
