With antisemitism rising around the world, Holocaust Museum L.A. will hold a commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on Sunday, May 5, at 11 a.m. in Pan Pacific Park. The ceremony brings together survivors, their families and community leaders, and will include Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. The commemoration marks the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz.

Holocaust survivor Mary Bauer, 96, who survived the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Ravensbrück Concentration Camps, will give remarks at the event. The Yom HaShoah commemoration also includes musical performances and remarks from community leaders and second and third generation survivors. A group of survivors will sing “The Partisan Song,” a Yiddish anthem for Holocaust survivors inspired by the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.

The ceremony is being held by Holocaust Museum L.A. in partnership with the American Jewish Committee, ADL Los Angeles, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California, Stand With Us and the USC Shoah Foundation.

Together, we'll honor survivors, remember those who perished, safeguard Holocaust history, and stand up against antisemitism and hate. This year’s ceremony commemorates the 80th anniversary of the deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz.
