International Pop Overthrow Returns to The Redwood Bar — 27 Years Strong

Since the ‘90s, International Pop Overthrow has been the underground’s love letter to great pop songwriting — the kind of festival that doesn’t chase trends because it’s too busy proving the song still matters. Now in its 27th year, IPO rolls back into The Redwood Bar for six nights of wall-to-wall hooks, harmonies, and hometown heroes.

Founder David Bash has built IPO into the biggest and longest-running pop/rock festival in the city, and this year’s Redwood Bar run (Aug 7, 9–13) packs in a staggering lineup pulled from a slate of 60+ LA-and-beyond artists — power-pop lifers, garage rockers, folk-leaning songwriters, and everything in between. Expect discoveries alongside familiar faces, and don’t sleep on the free 68-track festival comp CD for paid admission while supplies last.

$10 gets you in the door each night. Six nights of pop, no two the same.

Can’t have a Redwood 20th Bash without the Stiches 🤘

Rattling the walls since ‘94 — they shook the old stage when it could barely hold the amps, then broke in the new one just as hard ! Same three dudes, same snotty OC punk, three decades running. No version of this anniversary happens without them !

🚨Redwood Bar 20th Anniversary Show Series 🚨

Two decades of great music, cold drinks, and Downtown LA nights. The Redwood 20th Anniversary Show Series continues with the Official After Party for The Palomino — a film by Mule Kick celebrating the legendary North Hollywood club that was the beating heart of California Country from 1949 to 1995 !!!

Wednesday, June 17 · 10PM · Free Admission !!!!!

Featuring two living legends of the scene: Rosie Flores , a pioneer of the cowpunk movement and the first Latina to crack Billboard’s country chart — a 2024 NEA National Heritage Fellow honored for six decades of devotion to American roots-rock music — and James Intveld who first honed his craft as a teenager entering talent contests at the Palomino Club itself.

During the cowpunk movement of the ‘80s, Intveld was working the same clubs as Dwight Yoakam and Rosie Flores — and tonight, those two old friends share the stage again !!!

The night also features an incredible lineup of special guests thanks to — Tony Booth, Ronee Blakley, John Jorgenson, Chip Kinman, Jeff Ross, Dave Stuckey, Mustangs of the West, Bryson Jones, Nocona, KP Hawthorn, Dusty Wakeman, Matt Axton, Alice Wallace, and John Surge — with The H***y Tonk Palominos (Lorne Rall, Kip Dabbs, Bob Gothar & Marty Rifkin) holding down the groove all night long.

This is a room full of people who lived it — and tonight they’re bringing it back !!

Free admission. Tip jar for the band — bring a few bucks and make it count. 316 W. 2nd St., Downtown LA.

Twenty years of the Redwood. One night that honors the venue that made it all possible. This is more than an after party — it’s a celebration of California Country, past and present !!
