“There’s No Place Like This Place Anywhere Near This Place So This Must Be The Place”. Al’s place was constructed in 1915 by Lee Bing and three partners who ran a Chinese restaurant here in Locke, California. In 1934 Al Adami and an associate came up the river from Ryde to become the fir

st non-Chinese business in town. From the beginning, Al’s goal was to create an establishment with no pretense which he named named Al the WOP’s. Al’s goal was to create an establishment for the working man, a place to “Come in, relax and leave your worries outside.” From this many traditions were born. The first was the cutting off of businessmen’s ties and leaving them at the front door. This tradition was followed by tacking dollars to the ceiling as homage to the people of Locke. This money was used to host an annual liver feed for the local people who had supported him. Many traditions are still alive and well at Al’s today as Al the WOP’s has operated as a restaurant and bar more or less continuously since Al first opened its doors to the public. The dollars are still on the ceiling and you are expected to take your tie off before you come in. In its almost 100 year history Al the WOPs has become a destination for bikers, boaters and tourists from around the world. We pride ourselves on holding on to the values that Al established. It’s a place to leave your worries at the door, enjoy good drink and food, and experience the community of the California Delta with your friends.

Happy Labor Day from the crew that didn't get the memo about work being optional today!

Al The Wops will be open, pouring drinks and firing up steaks like it's any other day, because somebody's got to hold down this corner of The Delta while everyone else is grilling in their backyard. You're welcome.

In case the sarcasm got in the way: we mean that. This building has been on this street for over a hundred years because people keep showing up, and we'd rather spend the holiday with you than without you.

Everyone spent a few days before this long weekend googling flights to some island with a swim-up bar and a passport requirement. Not a bad plan, if you've got the time and the desire to sit in an airplane that long!

Al The Wops has cocktails and Fried Shrimp that never needed a boarding pass to taste... The Delta has been running the tropical vacation angle since before Instagram existed, no customs line required.

Fried Chicken doesn't care what day it is... unless you're at Al The Wops! Every Wednesday we pickle brine it in house, hand bread it, and fry it up proper, then hand you half a bird with two sides so you don't have to think about anything else until dinner on Friday. (The leftovers are real, y'all!)

Happy September 1st from The Al The Wops Crew! Despite what the pumpkin spice people would have you believe, still means we’ve got a few good weeks of summer left.

Before everybody starts pretending it’s sweater weather, come make the most of the last few days of summer in The Delta. We’re a pretty solid place to celebrate Birthdays, Anniversaries, Retirements, or really any occasion that deserves good food, cold drinks, and a little more personality than your average banquet room.

Speaking of celebrating… we’re already booking Holiday Parties in advance. Yep, we said holidays. Apparently they’re coming whether we’re emotionally prepared or not.
