Next in our judge introductions is Matt Copeland of Amistad, New Mexico! Join us in welcoming Matt before he evaluates our Owned Balancer Females and Gelbvieh Bred and Owned Bulls and Females.
Matt is a full time rancher on his family ranch: Copeland & Sons Herefords and Copeland Show Cattle, in Northeast New Mexico. Matt is the 5th generation on the ranch. He works alongside his wife Alyssa, daughters Cally Jo and Kinley, his parents and grandmother running 500 head of mostly Registered and Commercial Herefords along with Maines, Angus, Charolais, Simmental and Crossbred cattle. The ranch has been a family run operation since 1943.
Matt studied animal science at Oklahoma State University. Matt was the 2011 American Hereford Association’s Herdsman of the Year.
The Copeland family has 4 sales each year – two female sales and one steer sale every fall, and a bull sale every spring. The family takes a lot of pride in the fact that they have raised and/or sold 32 supreme, reserve supreme, grand or reserve grand champions in 5 different breeds in the last decade.
Matt has judged numerous shows around the country from the local to national level including the National Western, Fort Worth Stock Show, Cattlemen’s Congress, the North American, various junior nationals, several Texas majors, various State Fairs, OYE and many more.
