Tavern Sangria is also featured seasonally May-August. There are plenty of leagues at The Tavern to sign-up for year round. All leagues are free to enter with regular league season play and a seeded tournament at the end. Gifts and prizes are handed out at the end of tournament time to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Although, mostly it’s about the bragging rights around here…

Dart leagues are two person teams and take place on Tuesday nights. Pitch leagues are two person teams, 10 point pitch, and take place on Wednesday nights. There are winter, spring, summer, and fall leagues. Buck Hunter is an individual sport and takes place on Monday nights with only a fall/winter league. Baggo leagues take place on Tuesday nights. They are two person teams and have only a summer league. There is also a huge Oktoberfest baggo tournament around September/October time. That is also two person teams and is held all day on a Saturday with a $20 entry fee per team. It also includes a free t-shirt and food for participating teams in addition to the prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Brunch on the Square is an event that brings local chefs and entertainers together to create a great Sunday activity for family and friends. Brunches start in May and finish in September and occur every other Sunday when they start. Brunch dates will be announced in April for the season. Local chefs around the city of Lincoln are chosen to feature their own brunch menu many times spotlighting local grown produce and meat with vegetarian options on the buffet. Local DJs are also featured every brunch event with local artists and bands filling in for some more live entertainment. Brunches are a very kid friendly event. Brunch pricing is $10/person and includes one trip thru buffet and one mimosa. If you upgrade to $20/person it includes one trip thru the buffet and one carafe of mimosas

Tavern on the Square also holds a once a year event in June called the 4-4-2 Event. It is four courses of food, with four paired whiskeys, and two paired cigars. The featured chef is Chef Joe Anderson from Gate 25 and cigar pairing comes from Todd Cox at Jake’s cigars. The last two 4-4-2 Events have also featured Dan Crowell Brand Ambassador for Glenmorangie. Pricing for the 4-4-2 Event ranges from $30-$45 depending on the pairing. Event date is announced in April/May.

Have you ever had an argument with the person sitting next to you at the bar?

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Does ketchup belong on a hot dog? Is there a defined rule, or is it subjective, when an MLB umpire determines whether a batter’s checked swing “went through”?

Well, did you know that The Guinness Book of World Records was actually created to settle bar disputes?

The book was created in the 1950s as a promotional tool for the Guinness Brewery to encourage conversations at pubs and sell more beer.

The managing director of Guinness at the time was on a hunting trip in Ireland when he and his buddies got into a drunken argument about which bird was the fastest in Europe.

After failing to find the correct answer, they realized that thousands of similar friendly arguments were taking place nightly in pubs throughout Britain and Ireland.

They decided there needed to be an authoritative book of facts to help settle these disputes. Months later, the first book was born, which over the years evolved into the flashy, oversized book you always wanted to buy at the school book fair.

THE FIRST OF HOPEFULLY MANY MORE!

The Tavern Spring Pitch League wrapped up last Wednesday, and it was the team of Conner and Mollie/Anthony who took home this season’s championship!

They broke their maiden in impressive fashion, coming from WAY back in the losers’ bracket before beating former champs Jon and Amanda TWICE in the championship round!

Another killer season is in the books. The next Pitch League begins on Wednesday, June 17. Sign up at the bar or DM us.

WE LOVE TO THE BRIM AND SO SHOULD YOU!

We have partnered with To The Brim Communities for several years because we appreciate who they are, and what they do for Lincoln.

To The Brim drops off frozen meals to The Tavern and other Lincoln businesses every few weeks. No questions asked of course, our bartenders hand them out to people who come in and simply ask for one.

Give To Lincoln Day is two days away and you’d be doing your community a favor by donating to To The Brim. They’re looking to help expand food distribution and work to get their future community center up and running.

You can donate anytime through the end of Thursday here: https://givetolincoln.com/nonprofits/to-the-brim-communities
